2013 Wellington Local Elections
The 2013 Wellington local elections were part of the 2013 New Zealand local elections, to elect members to sub-national councils and boards. The Wellington elections cover one regional council (the Greater Wellington Regional Council), eight territorial authority (city and district) councils, three district health boards, and various community boards and licensing trusts. Wellington City Council The Wellington City Council consists of a mayor and fourteen councillors elected from five wards (Northern, Onslow-Western, Lambton, Eastern, Southern) using the Single Transferable Vote system. 2013 New Zealand Local Elections
The 2013 New Zealand local elections were triennial elections to elect local government officials and District Health Board members, and the membership of other local bodies such as Licensing Trusts. All elections were conducted by postal ballot, with election day being Saturday 12 October 2013. Electoral systems The local elections were held using postal ballot. Graham McCready
Graham McCready is a retired New Zealand accountant, known for successfully taking a private prosecution against MP Trevor Mallard. Early life McCready is the youngest of four children, and the son of an Irish wharf worker. He is the only member of his family to have educational qualifications. Career Among other things, McCready has worked as an engineer in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, as a computer technician for a Canadian airline, and as a clerk at Wellington City Council. Private prosecutions Trevor Mallard prosecution In November 2007 he took a private prosecution against Labour Party MP Trevor Mallard for fighting in a public place. The prosecution arose after Mallard had a fight with National Party MP Tau Henare in Parliament. Mallard eventually pleaded guilty to a charge of fighting in a public place and was ordered to donate $500 to charity. McCready said he was happy with the outcome. Helene Ruth Paula Ritchie (née Hess; born 16 March 1945) is a former local body politician, registered psychologist and mediator, and a board member from Wellington, New Zealand. As Wellington's longest serving City Councillor of over 30 years, she led the Labour team to a majority position on the council. Mark Everett Peck (born 16 July 1953) is a New Zealand politician and a member of the Labour Party. From 2013 to 2016, he was a Wellington City Councillor, and was MP for Invercargill from 1993 to 2005.
