2013 UMass Minutemen Football Team
The 2013 UMass Minutemen football team represented the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the 2013 NCAA Division I FBS football season as a member of the East Division of the Mid-American Conference. The team was coached by Charley Molnar in his second year and played its home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The 2013 season marked the team's second season as a member of the MAC, and also marked the first season in which the Minutemen were eligible for the conference championship as well as post-season bowl play. For the second straight year the Minutemen finished the season with an overall record of 1–11 with a Conference record of 1–7 which placed them in 6th place in the MAC East Division. At the end of the season Tackle Anthony Dima, a senior, was honored as an All-MAC Third Team selection. Molnar was later fired on December 26 after a second consecutive 1-11 season. Charley Molnar
Charley Molnar Jr. (born July 23, 1961) is an American football coach. Molnar served head football coach at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass), for two seasons, from 2012 to 2013, compiling a record of 2–22. Molnar had previously been the offensive coordinator at the University of Notre Dame. Coaching career Early positions Molnar began his coaching career at his alma mater Lock Haven University from 1984 to 1986, working with the wide receivers, tight ends, running backs and placekickers. He made his first entry into major college football as a graduate assistant at Virginia from 1987 to 1988. While with the Cavaliers, he assisted the quarterbacks coach. Molnar then called the offensive plays and coached quarterbacks at Western Carolina in 1989. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Tight End
The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers.
