2013 Southland Conference Softball Tournament
The 2013 Southland Conference tournament was held at Lady Demon Diamond on the campus of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, from May 9 through 11, 2013. The tournament winner, Northwestern State earned the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I softball tournament. Early rounds of the tournament were broadcast on the Southland Conference Digital Network. Both games of the championship round were carried on ESPN3, with Chris Mycoskie and Tony Taglavore on the call. Format The top 6 teams qualified for the Southland softball tournament. The tournament was played using a double elimination format and included the maximum number of games in the format since a second game on championship day was required. A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only ''one'' defeat results in elimination. One method of arranging a double-elimination tournament is to break the competitors into two sets of brackets, the ''winners' bracket'' and ''losers' bracket'' (''W'' and ''L'' brackets for short; also referred to as ''championship bracket'' and ''elimination bracket'', ''upper bracket'' and ''lower bracket'', or ''main bracket'' and ''repechage'') after the first round. Lady Demon Diamond
Lady Demon Diamond is the home stadium for the Northwestern State Lady Demons softball team. Located across the street from Prather Coliseum on the campus of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, the stadium features seating for 1,000 fans. Included in the 1,000 seat capacity is a combination of partially covered chairback and bleacher seats. The ''Outfield Club'', located outside of the left field fence, provides additional bleacher seating. The stadium has field lighting, bullpens, dugouts, and a press box. Improvements and expansions The stadium has benefited from numerous renovations over its life. Northwestern State University of Louisiana (NSU) is a public university primarily situated in Natchitoches, Louisiana, with a nursing campus in Shreveport and general campuses in Leesville/Fort Polk and Alexandria. 2013 NCAA Division I Softball Tournament
The 2013 NCAA Division I softball tournament was held from May 16 through June 4, 2013 as the final part of the 2013 NCAA Division I softball season. The 64 NCAA Division I college softball teams were selected out of an eligible 284 teams on May 12, 2012. 31 teams were awarded an automatic bid as champions of their conference, and 33 teams were selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Softball Selection Committee. The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears softball team represents the University of Central Arkansas, located in Conway, Arkansas. The Sugar Bears are a member of the ASUN Conference and participate in NCAA Division I college softball. The team is currently led by head coach David Kuhn and plays home games at Farris Field. The Lamar Lady Cardinals softball team represents Lamar University in NCAA Division I college softball. The team participates in the Southland Conference. The Lady Cardinals are currently led by head coach Amy Hooks. The team played its home games at the off-campus Ford Park for the first two seasons following the program restart. The McNeese State Cowgirls softball team represents McNeese State University, located in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
