2013 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships
The 2013 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships were the 77th such event organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation. 48 teams representing their countries participated in seven levels of competition. The competition also served as qualifications for division placements in the 2014 competition. Championship The Top division championship took place between sixteen teams from 3 to May 19, 2013. Sweden and Finland hosted the event with games played in Stockholm and Helsinki. 2013 IIHF World U18 Championships
The 2013 IIHF U18 World Championship was the 15th IIHF World U18 Championship and was hosted in Sochi, Russia. This was also a test event for the facilities to be used in the 2014 Winter Olympics. It began on 18 April 2013 with the gold medal game played on 28 April 2013. Canada won its third under-18 championship by defeating the four time defending champion Americans 3–2. The host Russians lost to Finland 2–1 in the bronze medal game. MVP Connor McDavid set Canadian records for goals and points in the tournament. Top Division Format A new format was implemented. The four best ranked teams from the preliminary round advanced to the quarterfinals, while the last placed teams played a relegation round in a best of three format to determine the relegated team. The 2013 IIHF World U20 Championship (commonly known as the 2013 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships) was the 37th edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship (WJC). It was hosted in Ufa, Russia. It began on December 26, 2012, and ended with the gold medal game played on January 5, 2013. The United States defeated defending-champion Sweden 3–1 to win their third title, their first one since 2010. American goalie John Gibson was named MVP of the tournament. Russia defeated Canada 6–5 in overtime to win the bronze medal, sending the Canadians home without a medal for the first time since 1998.
