400 Metres
The 400 metres, or 400-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field competitions. It has been featured in the athletics (sport), athletics programme at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1964 for women. On a standard outdoor running track, it is one lap around the track. Runners start in staggered positions and race in separate lanes for the entire course. In many countries, athletes previously competed in the 440-yard dash (402.336 m)—which is a quarter of a mile and was referred to as the 'quarter-mile'—instead of the 400 m (437.445 yards), though this distance is now obsolete. Like other sprint disciplines, the 400 m involves the use of starting blocks. Yunidis Castillo (born 6 June 1987) is a Paralympic athlete from Cuba competing mainly in category T46 sprint events. She competed in the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece. There she finished thirteenth in the women's Long jump - F44-46 event. She also competed at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China. Cheri Madsen (née ''Becerra''; born September 27, 1976) is an American Paralympic wheelchair racing athlete. Madsen is a Native American from the Omaha tribe. She grew up in Nebraska, graduating from Nebraska City High School in 1995. Aged three she lost the use of her legs due to an unknown viral infection in her spine. Tatyana McFadden (russian: Татьяна Макфадден; born April 21, 1989) is an American Paralympic athlete of Russian descent competing in the category T54. McFadden has won twenty Paralympic medals in multiple Summer Paralympic Games. Biography McFadden was born in Leningrad, then Soviet Union, on 21 April 1989. She was born with spina bifida, a congenital disorder that paralyzed her from the waist down. After her birth mother abandoned her in an orphanage that was too poor to afford a wheelchair for her, she walked on her hands for the first six years of her life. The doctors told her she was so sick that she had very little time to live. While in the orphanage, she met Deborah McFadden, who was visiting Russia as a commissioner of disabilities for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Angela Ballard (born 6 June 1982) is an Australian Paralympic athlete who competes in T53 wheelchair sprint events. She became a paraplegic at age 7 due to a car accident. She began competing in wheelchair racing in 1994, and first represented Australia in 1998. Over six Paralympic Games from 2000 to 2020, she has won four silver and four bronze medals. She has been coached by Louise Sauvage and trained with Madison de Rozario. Ballard held athletics scholarships at the Australian Institute of Sport from 1999 to 2001, and The University of Sydney (while studying first commerce and then psychology), and also represents the New South Wales Institute of Sport. Anrune Liebenberg
Anrune Weyers (née Liebenberg, born 3 November 1992), is a South African para-athlete. She took up athletics in 2010. Weyers was born with a congenital defect in her left arm and competes in the T47 disability class. At the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships she came second in the 400 m and sixth in the 200 m. In 2012, she won two medals at the London Paralympics, namely silver in the 400 m and bronze in the 200 m.
