2013 English Cricket Season
The 2013 English cricket season was the 114th in which the County Championship had been an official competition. It began on 5 April with a round of university matches, and continued until the conclusion of a round of County Championship matches on 27 September. Three major domestic competitions were contested: the 2013 County Championship, the 2013 Clydesdale Bank 40 and the 2013 Friends Life t20. Australia toured England to compete for the Ashes. It was the 76th test series between the two sides with England winning 3-0. The New Zealand cricket team toured earlier in the summer. County Championship
The County Championship (referred to as the LV= Insurance County Championship for sponsorship reasons) is the domestic first-class cricket competition in England and Wales and is organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). It became an official title in 1890. The competition consists of eighteen clubs named after, and representing historic counties, seventeen from England and one from Wales. The earliest known inter-county match was played in 1709. Until 1889, the concept of an unofficial county championship existed whereby various claims would be made by or on behalf of a particular club as the "Champion County", an archaic term which now has the specific meaning of a claimant for the unofficial title prior to 1890. Hashim Amla
Hashim Mahomed Amla OIS (born 31 March 1983) is a South African former international cricketer who played for South Africa in all three formats of the game. Amla holds the record for being the fastest ever to score 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 and 7000 ODI runs. He also became the fastest cricketer to reach 10 ODI centuries. Amla is an occasional off break bowler, and was South Africa's Test captain from June 2014 to January 2016. He is a right-handed batsman and holds the record for the highest individual Test score of any South African batsman of 311 not out, scored against England at The Oval, London in July 2012. 2013 ICC Champions Trophy
The 2013 ICC Champions Trophy was the seventh ICC Champions Trophy, a One Day International cricket tournament held in England and Wales between 6 and 23 June 2013. India won the competition, beating England by five runs in the final after overcoming South Africa, the West Indies and Pakistan in the group stage, followed by a semi-final victory over Sri Lanka. As winners, India earned $2 million in prize money, the largest amount since the tournament's inception. It was due to be the final ICC Champions Trophy, to be replaced by the ICC World Test Championship in 2017, but in January 2014, it was instead confirmed by the ICC that a Champions Trophy tournament would take place in 2017, with the proposed Test Championship being cancelled. The New Zealand cricket team was in England from 4 May to 27 June 2013 for a tour consisting of two Test matches, three One Day Internationals and two Twenty20 International matches. The New Zealand team also competed in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy between the ODI series and T20I series. The tour followed England's tour of New Zealand two months earlier. Before the tour, there were fears that a number of New Zealand players might have been unavailable for the start of the tour due to a schedule overlap with the 2013 Indian Premier League. New Zealand Cricket Team
The New Zealand national cricket team represents New Zealand in men's international cricket. Named the Black Caps, they played their first Test in 1930 against England in Christchurch, becoming the fifth country to play Test cricket. 2013 Friends Life T20
The 2013 Twenty20 Cup (known for sponsorship reasons as the Friends Life t20) was the fourth season of the Friends Life t20 Twenty20 English cricket competition. The competition ran from 26 June to 17 August 2013. The teams and format of the tournament remained the same as the previous season. Northamptonshire Steelbacks were champions, defeating Surrey in the final to win their first limited overs trophy since 1992. Format The 18 teams were divided into three groups of six and each group played a double round-robin tournament. The top two teams from each group and the top two third-placed teams qualified for the knockout stage: a three-round single-elimination tournament. The top team from each group and the best second-placed team then played in a different quarter-final at their home ground. 2013 Clydesdale Bank 40
The 2013 Yorkshire Bank 40 tournament was the fourth and final season of the ECB 40 limited overs cricket competition for the English and Welsh first-class counties, plus Scotland, the Netherlands, and the Unicorns, a team of players who did not have first-class contracts. The competition consisted of three groups of seven teams, from which the top team from each group, plus the best second-placed team, progressed to the semi-finals. The groups were allocated randomly. In 2014, the ECB 40 was replaced with the 50-over Royal London One-Day Cup. 2013 County Championship
The 2013 County Championship season, known as the LV= County Championship for sponsorship reasons, was the 114th cricket County Championship season. It was contested through two divisions: Division One and Division Two. Each team played all the others in their division both home and away. Durham were County Champions for the third time in six seasons. The top two teams from Division Two, Lancashire and Northamptonshire, gained promotion to the first division for the 2014 season, while the bottom two sides from Division One—Derbyshire and Surrey—were relegated to Division Two for 2014. MCC Universities
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is a cricket club founded in 1787 and based since 1814 at Lord's Cricket Ground, which it owns, in St John's Wood, London. The club was formerly the governing body of cricket retaining considerable global influence. In 1788, the MCC took responsibility for the laws of cricket, issuing a revised version that year. The 2014 English cricket season was the 115th in which the County Championship had been an official competition.
