2013 Bandung Mayoral Election
A mayoral election was held in Bandung on 23 June 2013, in order to elect the mayor of Bandung for a five-year term between 2013 and 2018. It was the second direct mayoral election in the city's history. Eight candidates vied for the mayoral seat, four of which are not backed by any political parties. Incumbent mayor Dada Rosada did not participate, having served two full terms as mayor. The election followed a first past the post system, in which the winner might have only a plurality of the votes. Architect Ridwan Kamil won the election with about 45 percent of the votes - over double the nearest competitor. The Gerindra Party (acronym for , ) is a political party in Indonesia. Formed in 2008, Gerindra serves as the political vehicle of former general Prabowo Subianto. It is presently the third-largest party in the House of Representatives, where it has 78 seats. Gerindra had positioned itself as an opposition party, but in 2019 it joined President Joko Widodo's Onward Indonesia Cabinet, despite Prabowo having run against Widodo in Indonesia's 2014 and 2019 presidential elections. The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia ( id, Mahkamah Konstitusi Republik Indonesia) is one of the apex courts in Indonesia along with the Indonesian Supreme Court. Mochamad Ridwan Kamil (born 4 October 1971) is an Indonesian architect and politician who is the 15th Governor of West Java, the most populous province of Indonesia. He was also the mayor of Bandung from 2013 to 2018. As an architect, he designed iconic structures in Indonesia and other countries in Asia with his Urbane architectural firm and lectured at the Department of Architecture, Bandung Institute of Technology.
