2012–13 WNBL Season
The 2012–13 WNBL season was the 33rd season of competition since the Women's National Basketball League's establishment in 1981. A total of nine teams contested the league. The regular season was played between 5 October 2012 and 16 February 2013, followed by a post-season involving the top five on 23 February 2013 until 10 March 2013. Broadcast rights were held by free-to-air network ABC. ABC broadcast one game a week, at 3 pm at every standard time in Australia. Spalding provided equipment including the official game ball, with Champion supplying team apparel. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The Adelaide Lightning, Melbourne Boomers, Perth Lynx, Southside Flyers and Sydney Uni Flames are the current WNBL teams sharing a market with an NBL team (the Townsville Fire and University of Canberra Capitals shared a market with the Townsville Crocodiles and Canberra Cannons respectively, before both NBL clubs became defunct). WNBL Grand Final Most Valuable Player Award
The Women's National Basketball League Grand Final Most Valuable Player (MVP) is an annual Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) award given to the best player of the Grand Final. Alicia Poto
Alicia Poto (born 28 March 1978) is an Australian basketball player. She has played in the Women's National Basketball League for the Australian Institute of Sport and Sydney Uni Flames. After a contract with a Czech basketball team fell through, she played basketball in Siberia. She is a member of the Australia women's national basketball team and won a medal with them at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She was considered for the 2008 and 2012 national teams to compete at the Olympics but did not make the final squads selected for the Games. Laura Hodges (née Summerton, born 13 December 1983) is an Australian female professional basketball player, having played in Australia's Women's National Basketball League (WNBL), Europe, and the WNBA. She currently plays for the Adelaide Lightning in the WNBL. Gabrielle Richards
Gabrielle Richards (born 19 November 1984) is an Australian professional basketball player. Career WNBL Richards began her WNBL career with the Australian Institute of Sport. She would then return to Victoria and play for the newest franchise, the Bendigo Spirit. During her time with the Spirit, Richards has won two WNBL Championships alongside the likes of Kristi Harrower and Kelsey Griffin. Richards is also a two-time awardee to the WNBL All-Star Five. Jenna O'Hea (born 6 June 1987) is an Australian professional basketball player who currently plays for the Southside Flyers in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). O'Hea is also currently the captain of Australia's national team, the Opals. O'Hea was the captain of the Australian Women's basketball team (Opals) at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Kathleen MacLeod (born 23 October 1986) is an Australian basketball player who was part of the Australian team that won the bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. The All-WNBL Team is an annual Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) honour bestowed on the best performing players in the league following every WNBL season. The WNBL Leading Scorer Award is an annual Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) statistical award given since the 1981 WNBL season. The Leading Scorer is determined by the player with the highest average points per game, throughout the regular season.
