2012–13 Richmond Spiders Men's Basketball Team
The 2012–13 Richmond Spiders men's basketball team represented the University of Richmond in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college basketball during the 2012–13 season. Richmond competed as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) under eighth-year head basketball coach Chris Mooney and played its home games at the Robins Center. This season was the 100th in Richmond basketball history. Preseason Recruiting 100 Years celebration The University celebrated the 100th season of Spider basketball in several ways. Chris Mooney (basketball)
Christopher Scott Mooney (born August 7, 1972) is an American college basketball coach and the current head men's basketball coach at the University of Richmond. Prior to taking the helm of the Spiders basketball program, he was the head coach at Air Force. In his only year there, he led the Falcons to their second best record in school history (18–12). He played college basketball at Princeton. As a four-year starter at Princeton, he ranks 22nd on the school's all-time leading scoring list with 1,071 points, and 11th in three-point field goals made (142). Early years and college Mooney was born and raised in working-class neighborhood in Philadelphia, spending his high school years at Archbishop Ryan High School as the child of a single father after his mother died from breast cancer when he was 13 years old. Curtis Blair (born September 24, 1970, in Roanoke, Virginia) is a retired American professional basketball player and current referee in the National Basketball Association (NBA). College A 6'3" and 185 lb point guard, Blair played college basketball for the University of Richmond Spiders. Souderton is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,191 at the 2020 census. Souderton formerly hosted the end of the annual Bucks County Classic, a professional bicycle race. History The town was originally named Welshtown, because it was settled by the Welsh. Richard Joseph Tarrant Jr. (born September 15, 1928) was the head men's basketball coach at the University of Richmond from 1981 through 1993. Aron Stewart
Aron Stewart (born November 17, 1950) is an American former basketball player who starred at the University of Richmond in 1972–73 and 1973–74. Stewart played in only 44 games for the Spiders yet still scored 1,237 points, averaging a school record 28.1 points per game for his career. Stewart was named the Southern Conference Player of the Year in 1973. Early life Stewart was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. Michael Perry (basketball)
Michael Perry (born November 10, 1958) is an American college basketball coach who last served as an assistant men's basketball coach at East Carolina University. Prior to joining the Pirates program, he served as the head men's basketball coach at Georgia State University from 2003 through 2007, and also held assistant coaching positions at Georgia State, Richmond and Virginia Union University. Perry also served as interim head coach of East Carolina for most of the 2017-18 season, as head coach Jeff Lebo underwent hip surgery and stepped down from the position on November 29, 2017. John Sylvester Newman Jr. (born November 28, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player. A 6' 7" and shooting guard/small forward, Newman starred at the University of Richmond, before going on to play in the National Basketball Association. John Michael Moates (November 28, 1944 – July 9, 2018) was an American basketball player best known for his collegiate career at the University of Richmond between 1964–65 and 1966–67. Bob McCurdy
Robert McCurdy (February 26, 1952July 29, 2020) was an American college basketball player for the Richmond Spiders from 1973 to 1975. He began his collegiate career with the Virginia Cavaliers before transferring to Richmond. McCurdy was the nation's leading scorer during his senior season of 1974–75, averaging 32.9 points per game for the Spiders. He became a radio sales and management executive after college.
