2012–13 MHL Season
The 2012–13 Maritime Junior Hockey League season was the 46th season in league history. The season consisted of 52 games played by each MHL team. Upon completion of the regular season, the top qualifying teams will play down for the Kent Cup, the league's playoff championship trophy. The Kent Cup champion will then meet the top teams of the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League and Central Canada Hockey League in a host city to determine the Eastern Canadian Fred Page Cup champion. The Summerside Western Capitals won the 2013 Kent Cup by losing only 1 game throughout the entire MHL playoffs. The Fred Page Cup was hosted and won by the Truro Bearcats in 2013 with the Summerside Western Capitals the runners-up. Maritime Junior Hockey League
The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) is a Junior A ice hockey league under Hockey Canada, a part of the Canadian Junior Hockey League. It consists of five teams from New Brunswick and one team from Prince Edward Island, which make up the EastLink North Division (formerly Roger Meek), and six teams from Nova Scotia which make up the Eastlink South Division. The winner of the MHL playoffs competes for the Fred Page Cup against the winners of the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League and the Central Junior A Hockey League. The winner of the Fred Page Cup then moves on to compete for the Canadian National Junior A Championship, formerly known as the Royal Bank Cup. Dieppe Commandos
The Edmundston Blizzard are a junior ice hockey team from Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada. They play in the Maritime Junior Hockey League. History The Moncton Hawks were New Brunswick Junior Hockey League Junior A champions in 1981, 1982, and 1983. In 1983, the Moncton Hawks abandoned the faltering New Brunswick Junior Hockey League and joined the Metro Valley Junior Hockey League which until then was a Nova Scotia-based league. In the summer of 2008, the Moncton Beavers moved to neighbouring Dieppe and became the Commandos. The Commandos played host to the 2009 Fred Page Cup. The Commandos lost their first game after moving to Dieppe on September 13, 2008 2-1 to the Yarmouth Mariners. Amherst Stadium
The Amherst Stadium is a 2,500-seat multi-purpose arena in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is home to the Amherst Ramblers Ice hockey team of the Maritime Junior Hockey League. The arena hosted the 1993 Centennial Cup. It also hosts various minor hockey contests and trade shows every year. The facility's nickname is "The Jungle", and is known to many as one of the toughest buildings to win at when the Ramblers are playing. This rink is also known to have some of the most crazy fans because during the Ramblers games a few riots have ensued after or during the games usually ending in suspensions for the coaches and players and the fans getting kicked out of the arena for the rest of the game. Mariners Centre
The Mariners Centre is a multi-purpose and double ice surface arena in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. It officially opened on November 28, 2001 and the building size is . It is home to the Yarmouth Mariners of the Maritime Junior Hockey League. The facility hosted the 2005 Fred Page Cup and hosted the New York Islanders training camp in September, 2005 and the Islanders returned for their training camp in 2006 with their new head coach, Ted Nolan. Rath Eastlink Community Centre
The Rath Eastlink Community Centre is a multi purpose sporting facility located in Truro, Nova Scotia. The facility features an NHL sized arena, a competition-sized (25m) swimming pool, a water slide, a fitness centre and, a rock climbing wall. The facility opened on March 2, 2013. The opening day was set for fall 2012 but, was delayed due to a steel plant fire, and painting issues during construction of the arena. Inaugural game and hosting of the Fred Page Cup The first hockey game, which coincided with the opening of the RECC, was held March 2, 2013 between the visiting Metro Shipbuilders and the Truro Bearcats. Consolidated Credit Union Place (formerly known as the ''Summerside Wellness Centre'') is a multi purpose facility that opened in two stages in April 2006 in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada. It contains an aquatics centre, meeting and convention rooms, a fitness centre, two NHL size ice surface arenas, bowling lanes and an indoor walking track. The swimming portion (Phase 1) consists of a 25 metre competition pool, pleasure pool, a water slide, a water mushroom, a hot tub, steam room, and sauna. Pictou County Wellness Centre
The Pictou County Wellness Centre is a multi-purpose sporting facility located in Westville Road, Nova Scotia. The facility features 2 NHL sized hockey arenas, an olympic sized swimming pool, a fitness centre and, a gymnasium. The facility opened on December 6, 2012. The opening day featured a MHL game between the Pictou County Crushers and the Bridgewater Lumberjacks. There are two arenas in the Pictou County Wellness Centre, one being the main arena called the Sobeys Arena, and the other, an auxiliary arena named, the Bell Aliant arena. The Pictou County YMCA calls the Pictou County Wellness Centre home as they are the owners of the pool, gymnasium and, fitness centre. Campbellton Tigers
The Campbellton Tigers are a Junior "A" ice hockey team based in Campbellton, New Brunswick. They play in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League. The team plays their home games at the Memorial Civic Center. Originally founded in 1996 as the Restigouche River Rats the team was relocated two years later in Campbellton and rebranded as the Tigers. In 2005 the team returned to Restigouche for another three-year period before making the move back to Campbellton were they continue with their franchise to-date.
