The 2012–13 season is Fenerbahçe's 55th consecutive season in the Süper Lig and their 105th year in existence. They also competed in the UEFA Champions League starting in the third qualifying round after being second in the 2011–12 domestic season. 2011–12 Süper Lig
The 2011–12 Süper Lig (known as the ''Spor Toto Süper Lig'' for sponsorship reasons) was the 54th season of the Süper Lig, the top level football league of Turkey. Fenerbahçe were the defending champions. The start date of the league was due to be 7 August 2011, but due to the match fixing scandal in Turkey it began instead on 9 September 2011 and was concluded on 12 May 2012. Galatasaray won their 18th title. A new format was introduced this season, in which after the regular season two play-off groups were played to decide over the Champions League and Europa League starting rounds. Points of the regular season were halved for ranking in those. Teams Bucaspor, Kasımpaşa and Konyaspor were relegated at the end of the 2010–11 season after finishing in the bottom three places of the standings. 2011 Turkish Sports Corruption Scandal
The 2011 Turkish Sports corruption scandal was an investigation about match fixing, incentive premium, bribery, establishing a criminal organization, organized crime and intimidation in Turkey's top two association football divisions, the Süper Lig and First League. On 2 July 2012, a Turkish special-authorized state court sentenced many people to various prison sentences. However, on 6 March 2014, special-authorized courts were abolished in Turkey. On 23 June 2014, an earlier retrial demand was accepted. The retrial process started on 15 January 2015. After the retrial process, people who were charged were cleared of all charges pending the Supreme Court's approval. Mehmet Topal (born 3 March 1986) is a Turkish former professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. Hasan Ali Kaldırım (, born 9 December 1989) is a Turkish professional footballer who plays as a left wingback for Kayserispor. He is also an international footballer, having earned caps for the Turkey U-19, U-20, and U-21 levels.
