Webcomics
Webcomics (also known as online comics or Internet comics) are comics published on a website or mobile app. While many are published exclusively on the web, others are also published in magazines, newspapers, or comic books. Webcomics can be compared to self-published print comics in that anyone with an Internet connection can publish their own webcomic. Readership levels vary widely; many are read only by the creator's immediate friends and family, while some of the largest claim audiences well over one million readers. Webcomics range from traditional comic strips and graphic novels to avant garde comics, and cover many genres, style (visual arts), styles, and subjects. Jillian Tamaki
Jillian Tamaki (born April 17, 1980) is a Canadian American illustrator and comic artist known for her work in ''The New York Times'' and ''The New Yorker'' in addition to the graphic novels ''Boundless'', as well as '' Skim'' and ''This One Summer'' written by her cousin Mariko Tamaki. Early life Tamaki was born in Ottawa, Ontario, and grew up in Calgary, Alberta. She attended Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School and went on to study Visual Communication Design and graduate from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 2003. After graduating art school, she worked at the video game company BioWare and later taught illustration at the New York City School of Visual Arts. Influences and themes Tamaki read Archie comics and newspaper strips as a child. She submitted outfit designs into contests for Betty & Veronica comics. Víctor Santos (author)
Víctor Santos Montesinos (born 1977) is a cartoonist and screenwriter of Valencian comics. In 2002, he won the Prize Josep Toutain a l'Autor Revelació from the Barcelona International Comics Convention. Apart from publishing multiple comics in the Spanish market, he has worked for several American publishers like Image, DC Comics and IDW Publishing. He is one of the most fruitful Spanish authors of his generation and has been highlighted in the fantastic comic and the comic policíac. His largest and emblematic work is the comic series ''Los Reyes Elfos'' and is also known for the noir comic series ''Pulp Héroes.'' Polar (webcomic)
''Polar'' is a 2012 webcomic and series of graphic novels written and illustrated by Spanish cartoonist Victor Santos. Featuring "international hitman Black Kaiser", the webcomic is inspired by a variety of action and noir fiction. ''Polar'' is characterized by its highly stylized design and complete lack of dialogue, though speech balloons were added in the graphic novel publications by Dark Horse Comics. A live-action film based on the webcomic premiered on Netflix in January 2019. ''Digger'' is a webcomic drawn and written by Ursula Vernon, and published in print form by Sofawolf Press. It has drawn comparisons to ''Bone'', ''Cerebus'', and ''Discworld''. ''Digger'' won the Hugo and Mythopoeic Fantasy Awards, and was nominated for an Eisner Award. Story In the opening pages, Digger is tunneling alone through the ground, lost and dazed after being intoxicated by a pocket of bad air. Digging to the surface, she emerges in a temple, where she meets the Statue of Ganesh. Here she finds that something or someone has "magicked up" her tunnel, cutting off her route home. Ursula Vernon
Ursula Vernon (born May 28, 1977) is an American freelance writer, artist and illustrator. She has won numerous awards for her work in various mediums, including the Hugo Award for her graphic novel '' Digger'', the Nebula Award for her short story " Jackalope Wives", and Mythopoeic Awards for adult and children's literature. Vernon's books for children include ''Hamster Princess'' and ''Dragonbreath''. Under the name T. Kingfisher, she is also the author of books for older audiences. She writes short fiction under both names. Career Ursula Vernon grew up in Oregon and Arizona. She studied anthropology at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where she first took art classes. The Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story is given each year for science fiction or fantasy stories told in graphic form and published or translated into English during the previous calendar year. ''Goblins'' is a webcomic by Ellipsis Stephens. Premise ''Goblins'' started in 2005, and as of 2022 is still updating. It is part of Hiveworks Comics. The comic's setting is based on a Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game and parodies these games, in that the rules of reality follow game mechanics; characters are aware of this and can take advantage of these rules. The story follows both a group of goblins, including Chief, Big Ears, Fumbles, Thaco and Complains-of-Names. It also follows Minmax and Forgath, "adventurers" based on RPG player characters. The Aurora Awards (french: Prix Aurora-Boréal) are a set of primarily literary awards given annually for the best Canadian science fiction or fantasy professional and fan works and achievements from the previous year."Literary glow of Auroras lures galaxy of sci/fi stars". Jonathan Rosenberg (artist)
Jonathan Rosenberg (born November 27, 1973) is the webcomic artist responsible for ''Goats'', ''Scenes from a Multiverse'' and ''megaGAMERZ 3133T''. Rosenberg has been producing webcomics since 1997, making him one of the original webcomic artists. When the National Cartoonists Society added a new category, Online Comic Strips, in 2011, Rosenberg was the first winner. Rosenberg graduated from Cornell University in 1995 with a major in biology. Before working full-time as a webcomic artist, he also worked as a website design consultant. On January 19, 2003, Rosenberg married graphic designer/ printmaker and fellow Cornell alum Amy Melnikoff. In August 2006, the Rosenbergs moved from their Manhattan apartment to a house in Westchester County, New York.
