The discus throw (), also known as disc throw, is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disk (mathematics), disc—called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than their competitors. Adelheid "Heidi" Schmid (; after marriage Grundmann-Schmid, born 5 December 1938) is a retired German fencer who competed at the 1960, 1964 and 1968 Olympics in the individual and team foil events.
