2012 UCI Road World Championships – Women's Time Trial
The Women's time trial of the 2012 UCI Road World Championships cycling event took place on 18 September 2012 in and around Valkenburg aan de Geul, Valkenburg, Netherlands. Judith Arndt of Germany defended successfully her world time trial title. The 36-year-old, who retired at the end of the championships, completed the hilly course in a time of 32 minutes 26 seconds to beat former teammate Evelyn Stevens (cyclist), Evelyn Stevens of the United States by 33 seconds. Stevens had been the seventh last to start, and her time of 33 minutes dead took the lead from teammate Ellen van Dijk of the Netherlands. Second last to go, as the previous year’s silver medallist, New Zealand’s Linda Villumsen, Arndt’s Orica-AIS teammate, came closest to unseating the American, but crossed the line in 33’07”, which was only good enough for provisional second place, ahead of 2010 champion Emma Pooley of Great Britain. Rainbow Jersey
The rainbow jersey is the distinctive jersey worn by the reigning world champion in a cycling discipline, since 1927. The jersey is predominantly white with five horizontal bands in the UCI colours around the chest. From the bottom up the colours are: green, yellow, black, red and blue; the same colours that appear in the rings on the Olympic flag. The tradition is applied to all disciplines, including road racing, track racing, cyclo-cross, BMX, Trials and the disciplines within mountain biking. A world champion must wear the jersey when competing in the same discipline, category and speciality for which the title was won. For example, the world road race champion would wear the garment while competing in stage races (except for time trial stages) and one-day races, but would not be entitled to wear it during time trials. Shara Gillow
Shara Gillow (born 23 December 1987) is an Australian former professional cyclist, who competed professionally between 2011 and 2020, for the , , and teams. She was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she finished 13th in the time trial and 39th in the road race. Personal Gillow was born on 23 December 1987 in Nambour, Queensland. Her father David Gillow is an Olympic cyclist who represented Zimbabwe at the 1980 Summer Olympics. She attended Nambour Christian College then was home schooled and obtained a Bachelor of Language from Western Sydney Institute. , she lives in Belli, Queensland. Martina Ritter
Martina Ritter (born 23 September 1982) is an Austrian former racing cyclist. She competed in the 2013 UCI women's road race in Florence. She won the Austrian National Road Race Championships in 2015 and 2017 and she was six times national time trial champion. In October 2017 it was announced that Ritter would ride for in 2018. It was initially announced that Ritter had retired from competition at the end of that year, but she contested the 2019 Gracia–Orlová, finishing ninth overall for an Austrian national team. Rhae-Christie Shaw (born 20 November 1975) is a Canadian former road cyclist. She participated at the 2011 UCI Road World Championships and 2012 UCI Road World Championships. Audrey Cordon-Ragot (née Cordon; born 22 September 1989) is a French road bicycle racer, who rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . Career She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's road race, but finished over the time limit. In the Women's time trial she finished 15th. In 2013, Cordon won the general classification of the five-day Tour de Bretagne Féminin. Natalia Sergeyevna Boyarskaya (born 27 February 1983) is a Russian former professional racing cyclist. She represented her country at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Boyarskaya broke away from the main peloton in the road race and managed to build up a lead of 59 seconds, but had to stop when she could not see which way to choose. Elisa Longo Borghini (born 10 December 1991) is an Italian professional road cyclist, who rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . During her career, Longo Borghini has won two bronze medals in the road race at the Summer Olympic Games, taking third-place finishes in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo. Wendy Louise Houvenaghel (née McLean; born 27 November 1974) is a Northern Irish former racing cyclist from Upperlands, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, riding on both the road and track, but specialising in the latter.
