2012 UCI Road World Championships – Women's Road Race
The Women's road race of the 2012 UCI Road World Championships cycling event took place on 22 September in the province of Limburg, Netherlands. Dutchwoman Marianne Vos won her second world title after finishing second 5 times since 2007. She struggled to escape for much of the 129-kilometre eight-lap race, but finally got clear on the intimidating Cauberg Hill to sprint to victory on the last two ascents. With a finishing time of three hours 14 minutes and 29 seconds, Vos beat Rachel Neylan of Australia by 10 seconds, with Italy's Elisa Longo Borghini third. Route The race covered 129 km and contained eight laps on a 16.5 km circuit. The circuit included the Bemelerberg, 900 m long and maximal 7% and the Cauberg hill in Valkenburg – where the Amstel Gold Race has finished since 2003, and hosted the finish of stage 3 of the 2006 Tour de France – a long climb with a maximum gradient of 12%. 2012 UCI Road World Championships
The 2012 UCI Road World Championships took place in the southern part of the Dutch province of Limburg, also known as South Limburg, between September 15 and 23. The event consisted of a road race and a time trial for men, women and men under 23, and team time trials for elite men and women. It was the 79th Road World Championships. Castelfidardo near Loreto in Italy was also a candidate, but Italy had held the UCI Road World Championships in Varese in 2008. The Netherlands had last hosted the Road World Championships in 1998, in Valkenburg aan de Geul, and 2012 was the seventh time that the country hosted the championships. The 2012 championships had a number of changes compared to the former editions. A team time trial was reintroduced. This was last competed as a world championship event in 1994 between nations. Anna van der Breggen (born 18 April 1990) is a Dutch former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2009 and 2021 for Team Flexpoint, , and . She won the gold medal in the women's road race at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and has won the Giro d'Italia Femminile on four occasions. In 2018 and 2020, she won the women's road race at the UCI Road World Championships. Liesbet De Vocht (born 5 January 1979) is a Belgian former road bicycle racer. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's road race, finishing 9th and in the Women's time trial and finishing 23rd in the race. She retired at the end of the 2014 season. Evelyn Lee Stevens (born May 9, 1983) is an American retired professional road bicycle racing, road cyclist. Early life Stevens was born in Claremont, California but grew up in Acton, Massachusetts, where she attended Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. She studied government and women and gender studies at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and was a member of the college's tennis team. Ashleigh Moolman Pasio (née Moolman; born 9 December 1985) is a South African professional female road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . Emma Karolina Johansson (born 23 September 1983) is a Swedish retired professional racing cyclist. Nicknamed ''Silver Emma'', Johansson accumulated many second and third places at major championships and one-day classics.
