2012 Thurrock Council Election
The 2012 Thurrock Council election took place on 3 May 2012 to elect members of Thurrock Borough Council in England. This was on the same day as other 2012 United Kingdom local elections. 2011 Thurrock Council Election
On 5 May 2011, one-third of seats on Thurrock Council were contested. The result of the election was that Thurrock Council stayed under no overall control. The Labour Party gained one seat from the Conservative party. Results Of the 16 wards that were contested, nine were won by Labour, six by the Conservatives and one by an independent. Council Composition After the election the composition of the council was: Following the election the vote for mayor was tied between Cllr Curtis and deputy mayor Cllr Tunde Ojetola. Outgoing Mayor Anne Cheale exercised her casting vote in favour of Councillor Curtis. In the election for council leader, Councillor Curtis then used his casting vote to elect John Kent as council leader, thus maintaining the Labour administration. 2014 Thurrock Council Election
Elections to Thurrock Council were held on 22 May 2014. The result saw the council change from Labour to no overall control. The UK Independence Party gained five seats, three from the Conservatives and two from Labour. Of the 16 wards contested, six were won by Labour, five by UKIP and five by the Conservatives. Following the election, Labour continued in government, but in a minority administration. Thurrock Council
Thurrock Borough Council, usually known as simply Thurrock Council, is the local authority for the borough of Thurrock in Essex, England. Since 1997, Thurrock has been a unitary authority, combining the functions of a non-metropolitan county with that of a non-metropolitan district. The other such authority in Essex is Southend-on-Sea. It is a member of the East of England Local Government Association. History Poor law union and urban district In 1835, as a result of the Poor Law Amendment Act 1834, the parishes that make up the modern borough of Thurrock were united under the Orsett Union, a poor law union. The union was established on 31 October 1935. It was governed by a board of guardians made up of 21 elected representatives, each representing a parish. Most parishes elected one representative, though Grays Thurrock elected two and Orsett elected three. Thurrock Council Elections
Thurrock Council is the local authority for the unitary authority of Thurrock in Essex, England. Until 1 April 1998 it was a non-metropolitan district. One third of the council is elected each year, followed by one year without an election. Since the unitary authority was first elected in 1997, the council has consisted of 49 councillors elected from 20 wards.
