2012 Texas Longhorns Football Team
The 2012 Texas Longhorns football team (variously "Texas," "UT," the "Longhorns," or the "'Horns") represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Longhorns were led by 15th-year head coach Mack Brown and played their home games at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium. They were a member of the Big 12 Conference. They finished the season 9–4, 5–4 in Big 12 play to finish in a tie for third place. They were invited to the Alamo Bowl where they defeated Oregon State. Mack Brown
William Mack Brown (born August 27, 1951) is an American college football coach. He is currently in his second stint as the head football coach for the North Carolina Tar Heels football, University of North Carolina, where he first coached from 1988 until departing in 1997, when he left Chapel Hill to become head coach for the Texas Longhorns football, University of Texas. In 2018, Brown was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Two days after Carolina fired Larry Fedora in November 2018, Brown was announced to return as the Tar Heels' head coach after a five-year hiatus from coaching, which he spent as an ESPN College Football, ESPN analyst. The 2011 Oklahoma State Cowboys football team represented Oklahoma State University in the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Cowboys were led by seventh year head coach Mike Gundy and played their home games at Boone Pickens Stadium. They are a member of the Big 12 Conference. Case McCoy
Casey Burl McCoy (born July 15, 1991) is a former American football quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. He started 16 games for Texas over a three-year period, amassing a 9–7 record. He is the younger brother of NFL quarterback Colt McCoy. High school career McCoy attended Graham High School where he was coached by his father Brad McCoy. He was a prep All-American, two-time all-state and three-time first-team all-district performer at quarterback who played in the 2010 Offense-Defense All-American Bowl. David Ash (American Football)
David Trenton Ash (born July 29, 1992) is an American football quarterback who currently plays for The Warsaw Mets in the Polish Football League. He played college football for the University of Texas Longhorns football team. After an impressive start that included being named the offensive MVP in the 2011 Holiday Bowl, he was forced to end his career early in the face of repeated concussions and concussion-related symptoms. On March 16, 2017, however, Ash was medically cleared to play football again, and told reporters he would participate in the Longhorns' 2017 pro day. Longhorn Network (LHN) is an American regional sports network owned as a joint venture between The University of Texas at Austin, ESPN and Learfield (formerly IMG College), and is operated by ESPN (itself owned jointly by The Walt Disney Company and the Hearst Communications). The network, which launched on August 26, 2011, focuses on the Texas Longhorns varsity sports teams of the University of Texas at Austin. Longhorn Network was announced by ESPN on January 19, 2011. The 2011 California Golden Bears football team represented the University of California, Berkeley in the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The 2011 Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl, the 34th edition of the game, was a postseason American college football bowl game between the Texas Longhorns of the Big 12 Conference and the California Golden Bears of the Pac-12 Conference (Pac-12), on December 28, 2011, at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. The 2011 Baylor Bears football team represented Baylor University in the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season. Lone Star Showdown
The Lone Star Showdown is the traditional rivalry for all varsity men's and women's athletics competitions between Texas A&M University and the University of Texas at Austin. The name comes from ''Lone Star State'', which is the nickname of the state of Texas. The "Lone Star Showdown" moniker was trademarked in 1996. Being the two oldest public universities in the State of Texas, the two schools are rivals in most major sports (primarily football). Both universities boast large living alumni bases (over 665,000) and a significant following from supporters throughout the state and nation.
