2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Men's 800 Metres
The men's 800 metres at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships will be held at the Ataköy Athletics Arena on 9 and 11 March. The gold medal was won by 18-year-old Mohammed Aman of Ethiopia, in a time of 1:48.36 seconds. In the 800 metres final there were 6 competitors all from different nations. Jakub Holuša had run the fastest time in the semi-final (1:47.23) placing in front of the gold medalist, Mohammed Aman. Going into the final Adam Kszczot was the favourite to win the race. At the end of the first lap Kszczot was leading and looking to pull away from the pack. At the 400 metre mark Kszczot was still winning the race after coming through with a time of 56.29 seconds. Kszczot kept his lead until the 700 metre mark where Mohammed Aman made a move and overtook him. Holuša and Osagie followed suite and also overtook Kszczot on the home strait. 800 Metres
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m. Boaz Kiplagat Lalang
Boaz Kiplagat Lalang (born 8 February 1989) is a Kenyan middle distance runner, who specialises in the 800 metres. His younger brother, Lawi Lalang, ran for the University of Arizona. Career At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Lalang barely missed running in the finals of the 800 m. At the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships, he won a silver medal in the 800 m. He ran a mile personal best of 3:56.14 at the Drake Relays, defeating training partner and race favourite Bernard Lagat in the process and went on to lower his time to 3:52.18 in Oslo, Norway. On 29 August 2010 he ran a personal best of 1:42.95 at the Rieti meeting in second place behind the new world record set by David Rudisha. José Luíz Barbosa, known as Zequinha Barbosa (born May 27, 1961) is a Brazilian former middle-distance runner who specialized in the 800 metres. José participated in 4 Olympic Games: 1984 Los Angeles; 1988 Soul Korea; 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta. Ryan Foster
Ryan Foster (born 26 August 1988) is an Australian middle distance runner and coach who specialises in the 800 metres. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2011. He won four Big Ten 800 metres titles, was an All-American over 800 metres and the mile run. Ryan holds two Australian National records: the indoor 800 metres and the indoor 1000 metres, as well as five school records: indoor 800 metres, indoor 1000 metres, indoor mile, indoor distance medley relay, outdoor sprint medley relay.
