2012 Fife Council Election
Elections to Fife Council were held on 3 May 2012, the same day as the other Scottish local government elections. The election used the 23 wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, with each ward electing three or four Councillors using the single transferable vote system form of proportional representation, with 78 Councillors elected. The biggest benefactors were the Labour Party who regained the 11 seats they had lost in the 2007 Local Elections thus increase its share to remain the largest party. Scottish Liberal Democrats lost over half their seats, with labour picking up most of the seats, while the Scottish National Party increased their representation by 3 seats and remained in second place on the authority. Most of their gains were in the wards of the Fife North East constituency where they had previously only had a single seat. Glenrothes (UK Parliament Constituency)
Glenrothes is a UK Parliamentary constituency represented in the House of Commons. It was created for the 2005 general election. The seat is currently held by Peter Grant, of the Scottish National Party (SNP). He has held the seat since the 2015 general election after gaining the seat from the Labour Party who had held the seat since its creation. Dunfermline (Gaelic: ''Dùn Phàrlain'') is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament ( Holyrood) covering part of the council area of Fife. Jayne Baxter (born 5 November 1955) is a Scottish Labour Party politician. She was a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Mid Scotland and Fife region from 2012 to 2016. Lesley Margaret Laird (' Langan; born 15 November 1958) is a Scottish politician who served as Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Party from 2017 to 2019. Douglas Chapman (born 5 January 1955) is a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dunfermline and West Fife since the 2015 general election. He is the SNP's Small Business, Enterprise and Innovation spokesperson. Early life Chapman was born in Edinburgh and grew up in Livingston and West Calder. Cara Hilton
Cara Laura Hilton (born 1975) is a Scottish Labour politician, who was the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Dunfermline from 2013 to 2016. Political career Hilton was the Labour candidate at the Dunfermline by-election on 20 October 2013. She won by a majority of more than 2,800 votes, overturning a previous SNP majority of 590. This was the first time ever that Labour had won a parliamentary seat (in either the UK or Scottish parliaments) from the SNP at a by-election. In her victory speech, Hilton praised the courage of preceding MSP Bill Walker's ex-wives.
