The 2011–12 season is the 102nd season of competitive football in Germany. Diary of the season *15 July 2011 – The professional season begins with the first matchday of the 2. Bundesliga season. *29 July–1 August 2011 – The first matches in the DFB-Pokal are played, resulting in the elimination of two Bundesliga clubs. VfL Wolfsburg lose 3–2 against Regionalliga club RB Leipzig, and SC Freiburg lose to 3. Liga club SpVgg Unterhaching by the same score. *5 August 2011 – The Bundesliga season starts with a match between Borussia Dortmund and Hamburger SV. The defending champions win the match 3–1. *13 September 2011 – In last place in the 2. Bundesliga, Alemannia Aachen sacks manager Peter Hyballa. The 2011–12 Bundesliga was the 49th season of the Bundesliga, Germany's premier football league. The season started on 5 August 2011 with the opening match involving defending champions Borussia Dortmund and ended with the last games on 5 May 2012. The traditional winter break was held between the weekends around 17 December 2011 and 20 January 2012. The league comprised eighteen teams: The best fifteen teams of the 2010–11 season, the best two teams from the 2010–11 2. Bundesliga and the winners of the relegation play-off between the 16th-placed Bundesliga team and the third-placed 2. Bundesliga team. Since Germany climbed from fourth to third place in the UEFA association coefficient rankings at the end of the 2010–11 season, the league gained an additional group stage berth for the UEFA Champions League. Regionalliga
The Regionalliga () is the fourth tier in the German football league system. Until 1974, it was the second tier in Germany. In 1994, it was introduced as the third tier. Upon the creation of the new nationwide 3. Liga in 2008, it became the fourth tier. While all of the clubs in the top three divisions of German football are professional, the Regionalliga has a mixture of professional and semi-professional clubs. Michael Oenning (born 27 September 1965) is a German football coach and former player. He formerly managed Vasas Budapest, Hamburger SV, 1. FC Nürnberg, 1. FC Magdeburg, and Aris. Playing career Oenning graduated in German and Sports science. During 80's and 90's he had a playing career, during which he played for Eintracht Coesfeld, SV Wilmsberg, SC Preußen Münster, Hammer SpVg, TSG Dülmen and SC Pfullendorf. Managerial career Early career In 1999, he started coaching career. Oenning worked as coach employed by Württemberg Football Association, from 1999 until 2004. In 2000, he joined the coaching staff of the German U-18 and U-20 selections, where he was an assistant. In 2004, he was named an assistant manager to Dick Advocaat in Borussia Mönchengladbach. Andreas Bergmann (born 18 June 1959) is a German football coach and former player. Playing career Bergmann was born in Steinfeld A midfielder, he played for 1. Peter Hyballa
Peter Hyballa (born 5 December 1975) is a German professional football manager, who last managed AS Trenčín. He also served as manager at clubs in Germany, Namibia, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland and Denmark. Before his career as a manager, Hyballa coached various youth teams in his native Germany, including the U19 sides of Arminia Bielefeld, VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund.
