2011–12 North Dakota Fighting Sioux Women's Ice Hockey Season
The North Dakota Fighting Sioux women's ice hockey team represents the University of North Dakota in the WCHA women's ice hockey conference. The team will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Frozen Four for the first time. Michelle Karvinen
Michelle Karvinen (born 27 March 1990) is a Danish-Finnish ice hockey player and member of the Finnish national team, currently signed with Frölunda HC Dam of the Damettan. Karvinen has been described as "the world's best technical player" and she is considered one of the best currently active ice hockey forwards. With the Finnish national team, she has won three Olympic bronze medals and six IIHF Women's World Championship medals, five bronze and one silver. Karvinen is a two-time Danish Men's Under-20 Champion, two-time Naisten SM-sarja Champion, three-time Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) Champion, and was the 2020–21 Swiss Women's League Champion with HC Lugano. Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award
The Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award is given to the top female college ice hockey player in the United States. The award is presented during the women's annual ice hockey championship, the Frozen Four. The award was first presented in 1998. The award is named in honor of the late Patty Kazmaier-Sandt, a four-year varsity letter winner and All Ivy League honoree for the Princeton University women's ice hockey team from 1981 through 1986. She also played field hockey and lacrosse. She died on February 15, 1990 at the age of 28 from a rare blood disease. Patty was the daughter of Heisman Trophy winner Dick Kazmaier. Josefine Jakobsen
Josefine Jakobsen (born 17 May 1991) is a Danish ice hockey forward and member of the Danish national team, currently playing in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) with Brynäs IF. Known for her strong two-way play, she is the thirteenth leading scorer in SDHL history and the second leading scorer in Djurgården history. She has won the Swedish Championship three times and was the first player to be named Danish Women's Player of the Year twice by the Danish Ice Hockey Union. Playing career In 2008, at the age of 17, Jakobsen left home to sign with Segeltorps IF in Sweden. She would score 27 points in 20 games in her rookie SDHL season, fifth highest among all scorers in the league, as the team lost in the SDHL (then Riksserien) playoff finals. Monique Edith Lamoureux-Morando (born July 3, 1989), previously known as Monique Lamoureux-Kolls, is a former American ice hockey player, author, gender equity advocate, and co-founder of the Lamoureux Foundation. She scored the game-tying goal in the final of the 2018 Winter Olympics before her twin sister Jocelyne scored the last shootout goal of the game to clinch the gold medal. She also captured silver medals for Team USA at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics. She competed for a year with the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association, a worker's union pushing for equality in the sport, and retired from playing in 2021. Manitoba Bisons Women's Ice Hockey
The Manitoba Bisons are an ice hockey team that represents the University of Manitoba. They compete in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport athletic program. Home games are contested at the Wayne Fleming Arena (located at 109 Sidney Smith St) in Winnipeg, Manitoba. History On March 22, 2009, the Bisons challenged the Moncton Aigles Bleues women's ice hockey program in the bronze medal game of the 2009 CIS national women's ice hockey championship. Marieve Provost of Moncton scored the game-winner in a shootout with a 3-2 victory over Manitoba, as Moncton captured the Atlantic conference's first-ever medal at the CIS women's hockey championship. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. Gisele Marie "Gigi" Marvin (born March 7, 1987) is an American ice hockey player for the Boston Pride of the National Women's Hockey League. As a member of the United States national women's ice hockey team, Marvin won a silver medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the 2014 Winter Olympics, and a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
