2011–12 Antigua And Barbuda Premier Division
The 2011–12 Antigua and Barbuda Premier Division (also known as the 2011–12 ABFA OBSERVER Group Premier Division for sponsoring purposes) is the 44th season of the highest competitive football league of Antigua and Barbuda. It began on 15 October 2011 and will conclude in March 2012. Parham FC are the defending champions having won their 3rd championship last season. All games are played at the Antigua Recreation Ground. Teams Villa Lions FC and A&R Smitty FC were relegated to the Antigua and Barbuda First Division after finishing in ninth and tenth place at the end of last season. They were replaced by the top two clubs from the First Division, Willikies FC and Pigotts Bullets. SAP FC finished in 8th place last season and had to participate in a three-team playoff with the 3rd and 4th place teams of the First Division, Potters FC and Swetes FC, for one spot in this competition. The Antigua and Barbuda Premier Division, currently known as the Digicel/Red Stripe Premier Division for sponsorship purposes, is the top football league in Antigua and Barbuda excludes Antigua Barracuda. History It was created in 1968 and is headed by the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association. 10 teams participate in this league. The winner of the league qualifies for the following year's CFU Club Championship. The 9th and 10th placed teams are relegated to the Antigua and Barbuda First Division. The championship is usually played between September and March. Piggotts
Piggotts, also known as St Mark's Village, is a small township in Saint George Parish on Antigua island in Antigua and Barbuda. It had a population of 1,478 in 2001. It is located in the north of the island, to the east of the capital city of St. John's. History In the late 1850s and early 1860s a school was built in what is now Piggotts to provide education to the poorer residents of the nearby sugar estates of Carlisle, Fitches Creek, Weirs, Gunthorpes, Paynters and Cassada Gardens. This school was centrally located so all of the residents of the estates would have easy access to the school. Circa 1864, Richard Albert Louden Piggott from Newgate Street in St. John’s City, moved to this area. Piggott had so many children, that the area eventually became known as “Piggotts Village”. Old Road, officially known as Old Road Town, is a town located on a roadstead in the parish of Saint Mary, Antigua and Barbuda. It is overlooked by Boggy Peak, which lies to its northwest. Old Road was founded in the 1700s, and in the 1850s was still a tiny settlement of 96, smaller than its neighbour to the west, Urlings. Old Road has since grown to a population of 1,251 in 2011, and is now the tenth largest settlement in the country.
