2011 USA Indoor Track And Field Championships
The 2011 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships was held at Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Organized by USA Track and Field (USATF), the two-day competition took place February 26–27 and served as the national championships in indoor track and field for the United States. The championships in combined track and field events were held two weeks later from March 5–6 at Gladstein Fieldhouse at Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana. Two American national records were set at the competition: Jenn Suhr cleared in the pole vault and Jillian Camarena-Williams threw in the shot put. Jenny Simpson completed a middle-distance double in the mile run and 3000 meters. Shot Put
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. History Homer mentions competitions of rock throwing by soldiers during the Siege of Troy but there is no record of any dead weights being thrown in Greek competitions. The first evidence for stone- or weight-throwing events were in the Scottish Highlands, and date back to approximately the first century. In the 16th century King Henry VIII was noted for his prowess in court competitions of weight and hammer throwing. Duane Solomon
Duane Renard Solomon (born December 28, 1984) is a retired American Olympic track athlete, primarily known for racing the 800 meters. He ran for his home country in the IAAF World Championships in 2007 and 2013 as well as in the 2012 Olympic Games. He also took the gold medal at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Under 23 Championships in 2006. Prep In high school Solomon was the 2003 CIF California State Champion in the 800 m with a time of 1:49.79, while running for Cabrillo High School (Lompoc, California) under the training of high school coach Peter Anderson. James Howell (sprinter)
James Howell ( – ) was a Welsh writer and historian. The son of a Welsh clergyman, he was for much of his life in the shadow of his elder brother Thomas Howell, who became Lord Bishop of Bristol. Education In 1613 he gained his B.A. from Jesus College, Oxford – he was to be elected to a fellowship at Jesus College in 1623, but he was never formally admitted and his place was taken by another in 1626. Tavaris Tate (born December 21, 1990) is an American sprinter. Career At the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships, Tate won a silver medal in the 400 m and a gold medal in the 4x400 m relay along with Clayton Parros, Duane Walker, and Joey Hughes. Michael Courtney (athlete)
Michael Courtney (5 February 1945 – 29 December 2003) was an Irish prelate of the Catholic Church. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1980 and was given the rank of archbishop and named Apostolic Nuncio to Burundi in 2000. He died of gunshot wounds suffered in a violent attack thought to be unrelated to Burundi's civil war. According to his brother, Courtney was the first papal nuncio to die as the result of violence in 500 years. Rubin Williams (sprinter)
Rubin Williams (born July 9, 1983) is an American former athlete. Williams grew up in San Jose, California and is a graduate of Valley Christian School. He attended the University of Tennessee and broke the school's 200 meters record, which had been held by Justin Gatlin. At the 2002 World Junior Championships in Kingston, Williams finished fourth in the final of the 200 metres, won by Usain Bolt. In 2007 he was a bronze medalist in the 200 meters at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. D'Angelo Cherry (born August 1, 1990) is an American sprinter, who specializes in the 60, 100 and 200 meters. He graduated from Mississippi State University in December 2012. Cherry was recruited by Steve Dudley in Jonesboro, Georgia in 2008. Career Cherry took part in the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships in Port-of-Spain, where he won a silver medal over 100 meters in 10.17 seconds, only behind Marcus Rowland. He also helped the United States 4 × 100 m relay squad to a gold medal. Mike Rodgers
Michael Rodgers (born April 24, 1985) is an American professional track and field sprinter who specializes in the 100 m and the 60 m. He won the gold medal in the 100m relay in Doha 2019. He is also the Pan-Am Games Champion. Career Rodgers attended Berkeley High School in St. Louis, Missouri where he ran varsity track and played varsity basketball for the Bulldogs. Later attended Lindenwood University and Oklahoma Baptist University where he was a 10-time NAIA national champion from 2005 to 2007. Rodgers still holds the NAIA Indoor 60m record with a 6.65. Amber Campbell (born June 5, 1981) is an American hammer thrower. Campbell attended Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina and competed for the Chanticleer track team. She had her first international competition at the 2005 World Championships. She then competed in the 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2015 World Championships. Jesse Daniel Williams (born December 27, 1983 in Modesto, California) is an American high jumper and the 2011 World Champion. He was ranked the #2 jumper in the world, outdoors, in 2010 and #1 in the world in 2011. He has jumped 53 centimeters above his height, a differential which places him among the top 20 jumpers of all time. Bernard Lagat
Bernard Kipchirchir Lagat (born December 12, 1974) is a Kenyan-American middle and long-distance runner. Lagat was born in Kapsabet, Kenya. Prior to his change of domicile to the US, Lagat had an extensive competitive career representing his native country. He is the American record holder in the 1500 m and mile run indoors, as well as the 1500 m and 3000 m outdoors, and is the Kenyan record holder at 1500 m outdoors. Lagat is the second fastest 1500 m runner of all time, behind Hicham El Guerrouj.
