2011 Toronto FC Season
The 2011 MLS season was the fifth season in Toronto FC's existence. The club once again failed to make the playoffs, however, they won the Canadian Championship and strong performances near the end of the season helped them in qualifying to the semifinal phase of the 2011–12 CONCACAF Champions League. The first league game was played on March 19, 2011, against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. It was the first match between two Canadian clubs in Major League Soccer history. Dwayne De Rosario scored the 8,000th goal in league history in a match against the Vancouver Whitecaps. The first home match was March 26, 2011, versus the other 2011 expansion club, Portland Timbers. The regular season ended on October 22, 2011. Toronto Football Club (commonly known as Toronto FC or TFC) is a Canadian professional soccer club based in Toronto. The club competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home matches at BMO Field, located at Exhibition Place on Toronto's shoreline west of Downtown Toronto. Jason Bent
Jason Andrew Bent (born March 8, 1977) is a Canadian former soccer player and current assistant coach for LA Galaxy. A midfielder, he played in Major League Soccer for the Colorado Rapids, 2. Bundesliga for FSV Zwickau and the Football League for Plymouth Argyle. Bent won 32 caps for Canada at full international level. Club career After playing college soccer for the University of Maryland, Bent played a season with FSV Zwickau, before moving to Colorado Rapids in MLS. Keith Makubuya
Keith Makubuya (born January 26, 1993) is a Canadian soccer player who played in Major League Soccer and the Canadian Soccer League. Career Youth Makubuya began his youth career with St. Catharines Concord SC. He continued his youth career with North Mississauga SC. Professional In 2009 Makubuya joined TFC Academy and played for the Academy team in the Canadian Soccer League. In late January 2011 it was announced that Makubuya would travel with Toronto's Senior team to Turkey for preseason training camp, Makubuya was one of four academy players invited to travel. After impressing during the preseason training camp he signed with Toronto FC on March 17, 2011. Adrian Cann
Adrian Cann (born September 19, 1980) is a Canadian soccer player who plays as a defender for Canadian Soccer League club Serbian White Eagles FC. Career College Cann had a college soccer career at the University of Louisville from 2000 to 2003. Cann immediately earned a place in the Cardinals' starting lineup as a freshman, starting 20 games for the team, and was named to first-team All-Conference USA. Cann would maintain this level of performance, being named first-team All-C USA as a sophomore, junior, and senior, and being named the conference's Co-Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior. Nathan Sturgis
Nathan Radford Sturgis (born July 6, 1987) is an American former soccer player who last played for Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer. Career Youth and college Sturgis attended Nease High School, played club soccer with the First Coast KYX, and played two years of college soccer at Clemson University. In his freshman season in 2004, Sturgis scored three goals and was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Ryan Johnson (born 26 November 1984) is a Jamaican former professional footballer who played as a forward. Career Youth and college Johnson was born in Kingston, Jamaica and moved to the Boston area with his family while he was still an infant. Eric Humberto Avila (born November 24, 1987) is an American professional soccer player who has played as a midfielder and defender. Joao Jimmy Plata Cotera (; born March 1, 1992) is an Ecuadorian footballer who plays for Delfín. Julian Bobby de Guzman (born March 25, 1981) is a Canadian soccer executive and former professional player and coach. De Guzman was the first Canadian to play in the Spanish La Liga. While playing in Spain, he was voted 2007–08 Deportivo La Coruña Player of the Year. Ashtone Wayne Henry Morgan (born February 9, 1991) is a Canadian soccer player who plays as a left-back for Forge FC in the Canadian Premier League.
