2011 Stanford Cardinal Football Team
The 2011 Stanford Cardinal football team represented Stanford University in the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season, 2011 NCAA Division I FBS college football season. The Cardinal were led by former offensive coordinator and new head coach David Shaw (American football), David Shaw, as Jim Harbaugh departed following the 2010 Stanford Cardinal football team, 2010 season in order to become the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. They played their home games at Stanford Stadium and are members of the North Division of the Pac-12 Conference. David Shaw (American Football)
David Lorenzo Shaw (born July 31, 1972) is an American football coach. He served as head coach of the Stanford Cardinal football team from 2011 to 2022. Shaw was the team's offensive coordinator for the entire tenure of his predecessor, head coach Jim Harbaugh, from 2007 to 2010. Previously, Shaw was a four-year letter winner playing as a wide receiver for the Cardinal from 1991 to 1994, where he was coached by Dennis Green and Bill Walsh. Prior to returning to Stanford as offensive coordinator, Shaw was Harbaugh's passing game coordinator at the University of San Diego and an assistant coach in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders, and Baltimore Ravens. 2011 Pac-12 Football Championship Game
The 2011 Pac-12 Football Championship Game was played on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon to determine the 2011 football champion of the Pac-12 Conference. The game featured the UCLA Bruins of the South Division against the Oregon Ducks of the North Division. It was the first football conference championship for the Pac-12 Conference, or any of its predecessors. The game took place at Oregon's Autzen Stadium, as the Ducks' conference record of was better than UCLA's record of . The Ducks defeated the Bruins 49–31, and would earn a berth in the 2012 Rose Bowl. At the Rose Bowl Game, the Ducks defeated the Wisconsin Badgers 45–38 for the Rose Bowl Championship trophy. Griff Whalen
Griff Whalen (born March 1, 1990) is a former football wide receiver. He played college football at Stanford and was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2012. Whalen has also been a member of the Miami Dolphins, San Diego Chargers, New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, and Oakland Raiders, as well as for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Cameron Jarrod Fleming (born September 3, 1992) is an American football offensive tackle for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Stanford. David DeCastro
David William DeCastro (born January 11, 1990) is a former American football guard. He played college football for Stanford University, and earned unanimous All-American honors. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, and he was considered one of the best guard prospects available. Early years DeCastro was born in Kirkland, Washington. Of South African descent, DeCastro grew up in Bellevue and attended Bellevue High School, where he was teammates with Stephen Schilling. He grew up a Seattle Seahawks fan, idolizing Steve Hutchinson. Sam Schwartzstein (born July 7, 1989) is an American football center who played for Stanford University, who also plays guard. He is 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m) tall, and weighs 292 pounds (132 kg). Tyler Gaffney (born April 20, 1991) is an American football running back who is a free agent and former professional baseball outfielder. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football and college baseball at Stanford.
