2011 South Alabama Jaguars Football Team
The 2011 South Alabama Jaguars football team represented the University of South Alabama in the 2011 NCAA Division I FCS football season. This was the third season in program's history. They were led by head coach Joey Jones and played their home games at Ladd–Peebles Stadium. This was their third and final season as an FCS independent before joining the Sun Belt Conference of the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2012; it would also be their first season in which all of their opponents were other Division I teams (they had played mostly lower division teams in 2010 and prep schools and junior colleges during their inaugural season in 2009). Joey Jones (American Football)
Joseph Russell Jones (born October 29, 1962) is an American football coach and former player. He is a former special teams coordinator at Mississippi State. He was not retained on Mike Leach's staff after Joe Moorhead was fired. Jones served as the head football coach the University of South Alabama from 2008 to 2017. Playing career Jones is a graduate of Mobile's Murphy High School. He played college football for coach Bear Bryant at the University of Alabama. Jones lettered with the Tide from 1979 to 1983, graduating with a degree in business administration. As a wide receiver, he tallied 71 receptions, 1,386 yards and 15 touchdowns. He ranked third among Alabama's career touchdown receivers and seventh in career receiving yards. He was named All- SEC as a senior and chosen to participate in the Senior Bowl. The Gulf South Conference (GSC) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level, which operates in the Southeastern United States. The 2011 Cal Poly Mustangs football team represented California Polytechnic State University in the 2011 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The team's head coach was Tim Walsh. The Mustangs played their home games at Alex G. Spanos Stadium in San Luis Obispo, California and were football members of the Great West Conference. With a win over South Dakota on October 29, the Mustangs clinched a share of the conference championship which they shared with North Dakota. The title was Cal Poly's fourth conference title since the conference's creation in 2004. They finished the season with an overall record of 6–5, 3–1 in Great West play.
