2011 Melbourne Football Club Season
The 2011 Melbourne Football Club season was the club's 112th year in the VFL/AFL since it began in 1897. In January, the club announced Brad Green as captain, taking over the reins from the recently retired James McDonald. Aaron Davey, Brent Moloney and Jared Rivers were named vice captains while youngsters Nathan Jones and Jack Grimes were promoted to the leadership group. The Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Demons, is a professional Australian rules football club that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's elite competition. Nathan Jones (Australian Footballer)
Nathan Jones (born 20 January 1988) is a former Australian rules footballer known for playing for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League. He is the older brother of player Zak Jones. He served as the captain of Melbourne from 2014 until he stepped down at the end of the 2019 season. Early life Jones played for the Dandenong Stingrays in the TAC Cup during his junior career and was selected to play for Vic Metro in the 2005 AFL Under-18 Championships. He was named in the 2005 Under-18 All-Australian team as a follower. Subiaco Lions
The Subiaco Football Club, nicknamed the Lions and known before 1973 as the ''Maroons'', is an Australian rules football club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW). It was founded in 1896, and admitted to the WAFL in 1901, along with North Fremantle. The club is currently based at Leederville Oval, having previously played at Subiaco Oval. West Australian Football League
The West Australian Football League (WAFL) is an Australian rules football league based in Perth, Western Australia. The league currently consists of ten teams, which play each other in a 20-round season usually lasting from March to September, with the top five teams playing off in a finals series, culminating in a Grand Final. The league also runs reserves, colts (under-19) and women's competitions. Daniel Hughes (Australian Footballer)
Daniel "Danny" Hughes (born 10 December 1986) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited from Sandringham (VFL) via Sandringham Dragons and the Hampton Rovers Football Club with the 25th selection in the 2006 AFL Rookie Draft, before being delisted at the end of the 2007 season. After missing most of the 2008 season with a hip injury, he was redrafted onto Melbourne's rookie list, with selection 33 in the 2009 Rookie Draft and was retained for the 2010 season. John Meesen
John Meesen (born 20 June 1986) is a former Australian rules football player who played for the Melbourne Football Club and Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Career Drafted with the 8th selection in the 2004 draft, Meesen had a long wait to play his first senior game for the Adelaide Crows. Playing for Norwood in the South Australian National Football League, Meesen was a leading ruckman in the senior side, but was incapable of surpassing Rhett Biglands, Ben Hudson and Matthew Clarke for a spot in the Crows team. Following Biglands' 2007 season-ending injury in the 2006 preliminary final and Clarke's move to St Kilda, it was thought that Meesen would begin season 2007 as back-up ruckman to Hudson. Daniel Bell (born 13 April 1985) is an Australian rules footballer who played for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was originally from the town of Kingston SE, South Australia. He was drafted in the 2002 AFL Draft in the first round, with the 14th overall selection from the Glenelg Tigers in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). He made his debut in round 15, 2004 against the St Kilda Football Club. In 2005 he played 13 games, and in 2006 played 12 games, but was hampered by injury. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Richmond Tigers
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. Richmond's headquarters and training facilities are located at its original home ground, the Punt Road Oval, which sits adjacent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the club's playing home since 1965. Brad Miller (born 6 July 1983) is a former Australian rules football player who last played for the Richmond Football Club. He previously played with the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) until he was delisted at the end of the 2010 season. Early life Brad is the son of Neville Miller, who played 28 games with the South Melbourne Football Club. Having spent his early childhood in Sandy Bay, Tasmania, Miller moved to Brisbane in Queensland with his family at an early age, where he played rugby league from age 13.
