2011 IPC Athletics World Championships – Men's Marathon
The men's marathon at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships was held in the streets of Christchurch, New Zealand on 30 January. British athlete David Weir, on January 29, pulled out of the marathon for safety reasons, as the roads around the circuit would not be closed to traffic. He was to compete in the classification T54 event. British athlete and world record holder Richard Whitehead did not get to compete in a marathon event. He has a double leg amputation and is classified as T42. There was no T42 marathon event, because there were too few marathon runners with a single or double leg amputation. He was not allowed to run in the marathon T46 event (athletes with single above or below elbow amputation). Marathon
The marathon is a long-distance foot race with a distance of , usually run as a road race, but the distance can be covered on trail routes. The marathon can be completed by running or with a run/walk strategy. There are also wheelchair divisions. More than 800 marathons are held throughout the world each year, with the vast majority of competitors being recreational athletes, as larger marathons can have tens of thousands of participants. Kurt Fearnley
Kurt Harry Fearnley, (born 23 March 1981) is an Australian wheelchair racer, who has won gold medals at the Paralympic Games and 'crawled' the Kokoda Track. He has a congenital disorder called sacral agenesis which prevented fetal development of certain parts of his lower spine and all of his sacrum. In Paralympic events he is classified in the T54 classification. He focuses on long and middle-distance wheelchair races, and has also won medals in sprint relays. He participated in the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Paralympic Games, finishing his Paralympic Games career with thirteen medals (three gold, seven silver and three bronze). Luis-Enrique Herrera (born 27 August 1971) is a Mexican former professional tennis player. Career Herrera was Mexico's national champion in the 12s, 14s and 16s junior events. He partnered Mark Knowles in the Boys' Doubles at the 1989 French Open and they finished runners-up. Visual acuity (VA) commonly refers to the clarity of vision, but technically rates an examinee's ability to recognize small details with precision.
