Javelin Throw
The javelin throw is a track and field event where the javelin, a spear about in length, is thrown. The javelin thrower gains momentum by running within a predetermined area. Javelin throwing is an event of both the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon. History The javelin throw was added to the Ancient Olympic Games as part of the pentathlon in 708 BC. It included two events, one for distance and the other for accuracy in hitting a target. The javelin was thrown with the aid of a thong ('' ankyle'' in Greek) that was wound around the middle of the shaft. Athletes held the javelin by the ''ankyle'', and when they released the shaft, the unwinding of the thong gave the javelin a spiral trajectory. Throwing javelin-like poles into targets was revived in Germany and Sweden in the early 1870s. Javad Hardani (born 22 March 1984) is a Paralympian, Paralympic Track and field, athlete from Iran. He competes in throwing events, and is classified T38 (classification), F38, a class for athletes with cerebral palsy. Javad competed in the 2008 Summer Paralympics where he won the F37/38 discus and finished third in F37/38 javelin. In 2012, at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, London Paralympic Games he succeeded in winning a gold medal in the F37/38 discus, breaking the F38 world record in the process. Gao Mingjie (; born November 23, 1980, in Shangri-La City) is a Paralympian athlete from China competing mainly in category F42–44 javelin throw events. Gao competed in the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece and won a silver medal in the men's F44–46 javelin throw event. Runar Steinstad
Runar Steinstad (born 4 June 1967) is a Paralympian athlete from Norway competing mainly in F42 classification throwing events. Athletics history Steinstad first represented Norway at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, entering the long jump, 100 metre sprint and javelin throw events (F42). In the subsequent Paralympics after Sydney, Steinstad dropped the long jump and sprint events and focused on the javelin. He competed at both the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens and the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, finishing in the javelin sixth and tenth respectively. Paralympic success came in the 2012 Games in London, where he threw a distance of 48.90 to claim the bronze medal. As well as his Paralympic appearances, Steinstad has also been part of six Norwegian teams to compete at the IPC Athletics World Championships, beginning in Birmingham, England in 1998 and has successfully qualified for the subsequent five games, taking him up to Doha in 2015. Kyron Duke
Kyron Duke (born 12 October 1992) is a powerlifter and Paralympian track and field athlete from Wales, UK competing in category F41 throwing events. Duke has represented Wales in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in powerlifting. In 2012 he qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics in javelin and shot put. History Duke was born in Newport, south Wales in 1992, but now lives in Pontnewydd near Cwmbran. He was born with achondroplasia a form of dwarfism. His older cousin Gareth Duke also has the same condition and represented Great Britain as a swimmer in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games, winning gold, silver and bronze medals. Duke took up powerlifting at the age of 12 and became junior champion at the para-sport in October 2009. He represented Wales at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the EAD (Elite athletes with a disability) category benchpress.
