The 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships were held at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris, France, from 4 to 6 March 2011. 577 athletes representing 46 countries competed at the championships. Twenty-six track and field events were contested, with the events programme divided equally between the genders. Russia topped the medal table, having won the most gold medals (six), as well as having gained the greatest total with fifteen. The host nation, France, was the next best performing team, with five golds being won by French athletes. Germany had the third highest medal haul, followed by Great Britain. Johan Lukas Wissman (born 2 November 1982) is a Swedish athlete from Helsingborg, specializing in the 200 and 400 m. He is the current national record holder in both of these events. Wissman won the gold medal at the European Indoor Championships in Athletics 2009 in Torino, Italy. This was Johan's first and long awaited international gold medal at the time 45.89. Nigel Levine (born 30 April 1989) is a British sprint track and field athlete. As well as an impressive sprint talent, Levine made a big impact in his first ever season over 400m in 2007 recording 46.31 and in 2009 reduced that to 45.78. In 2010 he was part of the bronze medal GB 4 × 400 m team at the world indoor championships in Doha and in 2011 he took the coveted European U23 crown as well as being part of the GB 4 × 400 m relay squad.
