2011 Albanian Local Elections
The Albanian local elections of 2011 took place on 8 May 2011 in Albania. Electors were asked to elect their municipality's mayor, municipal council members, municipal unit mayor, and municipal unit members. The elections were administrated by the Central Election Commission of Albania. Only 9 of the 384 winning candidates were women. Parties and coalitions The two coalitions taking part in the 2011 local elections were the Coalition of the Citizen ( sq, Aleanca për Qytetarin) formed by the Democratic Party of Albania and Coalition for the Future ( sq, Aleanca për të Ardhmen) formed by the Socialist Party of Albania. Process In total, 7882 voting centers in the country opened at 7:00 am and closed at 8:00 pm. The voter turnout countrywide was about 50.9%. Koha Jonë
''Koha Jonë'' ( en, Our Time) is a newspaper published in Albania. The paper is a politically unaffiliated daily newspaper based in Tirana. History The paper was first published on 11 May 1991 by Nikolle Lesi and Aleksandër Frangaj in Lezhë and after some time the headquarters were moved to Tirana. Nikolle Lesi and Alexander Frangaj were the director and chief editor of the paper, respectively. In 1996, Lesi became sole owner of the paper when he bought out Frangaj, who had owned 40 percent of the shares. In 1997 the premises of ''Koha Jonë'', at the time Albania’s biggest-circulation daily, were completely burnt down by unknown perpetrators. No one was identified or prosecuted by the authorities in connection with those attacks. Circulation ''Koha Jonë'' was the largest paper in Albania with a circulation of 34,000 copies in 1992. The Democratic Party of Albania ( sq, Partia Demokratike e Shqipërisë, PD or PDSH) is a conservative political party in Albania. It has been the largest opposition party in the country since 2013. Ekrem Spahiu
Ekrem Spahiu (born 18 April 1960) was a Member of the Albanian Parliament in XVIth legislature (from 2001). Eqerem Spahia was arrested for "organising armed uprising, participating in it and violating institutions" after an armed protest near the parliament building that aimed to topple the Nano government and bring to power Crown Prince Leka, son of Zog of Albania, in September 1998. Ekrem Spahiu made the most disputed case of homophobia and hate speech in Albania as he stated in 2012 to a local newspaper: “What remains to be done is to beat them up with a stick. If you don't understand this, I can explain it: to beat them with a rubber stick”. The Legality Movement Party (; PLL) is a right-wing monarchist political party in Albania. It supports the return to power of the House of Zogu under Crown Prince Leka of the Albanians. In the 2001 parliamentary election it was part of the Union for Victory (''Bashkimi për Fitoren'') coalition which received 37.1% of the vote and 46 members of parliament. In the 2021 election, the PLL won 2 parliamentary seats, with Andia Ulliri becoming the youngest member of the 32nd legislature of Albania. PLL is member of the International Monarchist Conference. Zef () is a South African counter-culture movement. Kyle Hans Brockmann has compared zef counter-culture to many similar anarchic sub-cultures in the northern hemisphere.
