Offseason * August 20: Karen Thatcher, a 2006 graduate of Providence, and a participant in ice hockey at the 2010 Winter Olympics for Team USA has been named as a Friars assistant coach. * Sept 15: The women's ice hockey team organized the first annual Road Hockey Rumble. It was a street hockey tournament to raise money for Children's Charities of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The tournament was played on Sunday, September 12, and the concept was conceived by junior defenseman Christie Jensen. * Genevieve Lacasse participated in the evaluation camp for the senior 2010–11 Canadian national women's team. She played for Canada Red (the camp was divided into four teams, Red, White, Yellow, Blue). Bob Deraney is an American ice hockey coach. Playing career Deraney was a member of the Boston University Terriers men's ice hockey The Boston University Terriers men’s ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team that represents Boston University. Karen Thatcher
Karen Elizabeth Thatcher (born February 29, 1984) is an American ice hockey forward. She was named to the United States women's ice hockey team for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Personal life Thatcher was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, but grew up in Douglas, Massachusetts. She graduated from Providence College in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in biology. She was employed as a physical therapy student assistant at Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. She is now a Doctor of Physical Therapy at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in sports medicine and rehabilitation, and working to complete her PhD. Hockey at the 2010 Winter Olympics was held at Rogers Arena (then known as GM Place, and renamed ''Canada Hockey Place'' for the duration of the Games due to IOC sponsorship rules) in Vancouver, home of the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks, and at UBC Winter Sports Centre, home of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport's UBC Thunderbirds. Twelve teams competed in the men's event and eight teams competed in the women's event. Canada won both tournaments with victories against the United States, while Finland won both bronze games, however against different opponents. McGill Martlets Women's Ice Hockey
The McGill Martlets ice hockey team represents McGill University, based in Montreal, Quebec in U Sports women's ice hockey. Jenn Wakefield
Jennifer Dorothy June "Jenn" Wakefield (born June 15, 1989) is a Canadian ice hockey player and coach, currently playing in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) with MoDo Hockey Dam. She has served as an assistant coach to the Netherlands' women's national ice hockey team and the women's representative team of Almtuna IS in the Damettan.
