2010–11 Oxford United F.C. Season
Oxford United F.C. season 2010–11 marked the club's return to League Two after a four-year absence. Oxford United finished 12th in the division, having achieved promotion from the Football Conference via the playoffs the previous season. It was the club's 117th year in existence, their 111th of competitive football and their 62nd since turning professional. This article covers the period from 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011. United's first season back in the League began with a 1–1 draw at Burton Albion, and their first League win came in their 5th game, a 4–0 defeat of Morecambe. However, this convincing victory was one of only 4 wins in their initial 17 matches, and the team had dropped to 21st in the table by late November. The Premier League (legal name: The Football Association Premier League Limited) is the highest level of the men's English football league system. Almondvale Stadium, also known as the Tony Macaroni Arena for sponsorship purposes, but most commonly referred to as ‘The Spaghettihad’ (alluding to the Etihad Stadium), is a football stadium, located in the Almondvale area of Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland. It has been the home ground of Scottish Premiership club Livingston since 1995, and has an all-seater capacity of 9,512. History The stadium was constructed in 1995 as a joint venture between Edinburgh football club Meadowbank Thistle F.C. and the Livingston Development Corporation (LDC). Part of the deal involved the relocation of Meadowbank Thistle to the town and a name change to Livingston. Sam Deering
Sam Deering (born 26 February 1991) is an English footballer who plays as a midfielder for Brentwood Town. Playing career Deering spent time as a youth team player with Chelsea and Charlton Athletic before joining Oxford United's academy in 2006. He was promoted to the first team in 2008 and went on to make his first team debut against Weymouth on 12 August of that year. Deering scored twice in December 2008 before breaking his leg against Salisbury City. He was fined and warned about his future conduct later that week after making racist comments on a social networking website. Alfie James Potter (born 9 January 1989) is an English professional footballer who plays for Oxford City as a midfielder. Career Potter came through the youth team ranks at Peterborough United, after being released by Wimbledon at the age of 14, then by Millwall aged 17. Before joining Peterborough he spent a few months at the Barking Abbey Centre for Football Excellence, where he made several first-team appearances for Waltham Forest in the Isthmian League. The Dumbarton Football Stadium, commonly known as The Rock, and currently named The moreroom.com Stadium for sponsorship purposes is a stadium in Dumbarton, Scotland, used mostly for football matches; it is the home ground of Dumbarton Football Club. The stadium has a capacity of , and was built in 2000 after the move away from Dumbarton's former home, Boghead Park. It was built on part of the site formerly occupied by Denny's shipyard. Dumbarton (; also sco, Dumbairton; ) is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, on the north bank of the River Clyde where the River Leven flows into the Clyde estuary. Mitchell Cole
Mitchell James Cole (6 October 1985 – 30 November 2012) was an English footballer who played as a winger. Cole was forced to retire from professional football in 2011 as a result of a deteriorating heart condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, that meant it was dangerous for him to continue playing competitive football. Cole started his career in the academy at West Ham United. He was released in 2004 and joined Grays Athletic. During his first season with Grays, the club won the Conference South title, as well as the FA Trophy. Matthew James Green (born 2 January 1987) is an English footballer who plays as a striker for Newport City. Green started his senior career at Conference South club Newport County in 2005, having been released from Bristol City's youth academy. He made 56 league appearances for Newport County in a two-season spell at the club, before joining Championship side Cardiff City in January 2007.
