Webcomics
Webcomics (also known as online comics or Internet comics) are comics published on a website or mobile app. While many are published exclusively on the web, others are also published in magazines, newspapers, or comic books. Webcomics can be compared to self-published print comics in that anyone with an Internet connection can publish their own webcomic. Readership levels vary widely; many are read only by the creator's immediate friends and family, while some of the largest claim audiences well over one million readers. Webcomics range from traditional comic strips and graphic novels to avant garde comics, and cover many genres, styles, and subjects. They sometimes take on the role of a comic blog. Mike Dawson (cartoonist)
Mike Dawson (born 1975) is a British-American cartoonist, known for his work on books such as ''Freddie & Me'', ''Ace-Face'' and '' Gabagool!'' Early life Dawson was born in Scotland, but his family moved to Leighton Buzzard, England when he was still an infant. They emigrated to the United States in 1986, where his family settled in Red Bank, New Jersey. He studied painting at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. Career Between 1995 and 1998 Dawson wrote and drew a daily comic strip for his college newspaper ''The Daily Targum''. He worked with multiple collaborators, and the strip went through a number of incarnations: ''Dave & Pissa'', ''Dave & Co'', and ''Dave’s Family''. Max Douglas
Max Douglas (born September 15, 1970) is a Canadian comic book creator. Since approximately 1996, he has worked under the pen name of Salgood Sam which is derived from a reverse spelling of his name. Published works ''Early Career'' Douglas started drawing in his late teens, producing zines. His first formally published work appeared in a co-created black-and-white comic book for Caliber Comics, titled ''Nature of the Beast''. It was written with Al Roy who also penned a short story that Douglas drew called ''Captain Censored Vs. Dr. Goingtofar'for ''True North 2'', published by the Comic Legends Legal Defense Fund. ''Zahra's Paradise'' (Persian language, Persian: بهشت زهرا ''Behesht-e Zahra'') is a webcomic and graphic novel by Amir Soltani and Khalil set in modern Iran. It has been described as a political webcomic dealing with real-time events. Its story follows a mother searching for her son, who disappeared around the time of Iran election, 2009, Iran's 2009 elections. Serialized online beginning in early 2010, ''Zahra's Paradise'' was published in hardcover format in 2011 and has received numerous positive reviews in mainstream press and blogs. Publication history ''Zahra's Paradise'' was conceived by a Persian writer (Amir Soltani), an Arab artist ("Khalil"), and a Jewish editor, who chose anonymity for political reasons. Denma
''Denma'' () is a South Korean webtoon written and illustrated by Youngsoon Yang (Yang Yeong-soon), colored by Seunghee Hong (Hong Seung-hee). Started on 8 January 2010, this manhwa was released on Naver WEBTOON, where it continues to be published. It has been translated into Japanese (テンマ, Tenma), English and Simplified (颠玛, Diānmǎ) & Traditional Chinese (顛瑪, Diānmǎ) by WEBTOON. The new English version is updated Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Overview The author takes many names from the Bible. In the interview, the author said he was reading the Bible at that time and got many names, so he used them randomly in Denma. The world view of Denma is the same as the author's previous works Iron Dog John Doe () (1998) and 《Rami Record》 (2008). Girl Genius
''Girl Genius'' is an ongoing comic book series turned webcomic, written and drawn by Phil and Kaja Foglio and published by their company Studio Foglio LLC under the imprint Airship Entertainment. The comic won the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story three times, has been nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Professional Artist and twice for Eisner Awards, and won multiple WCCA awards. ''Girl Genius'' has the tagline of "Adventure, Romance, Mad Science!". It follows the main character Agatha Heterodyne (introduced in 1995) through an alternate-history Victorian-style "steampunk" setting, although elements veer from what is usually thought of as steampunk. Kaja Foglio describes it as "gaslamp fantasy" instead to suggest its more fantastic style. Phil Foglio
Philip Foglio (born May 1, 1956) is an American cartoonist and comic book artist known for his humorous science fiction and fantasy art. Early life and career Foglio was born on May 1, 1956, in Mount Vernon, New York, and moved with his family to Hartsdale, New York, where he lived until he was 17. He attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago, Illinois, and was a member of the university's science fiction club, art-directing & co-editing the group's fanzine, ''Effen Essef''. He was nominated for both the Hugo Award for Best Fan Artist and the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in 1976, and won ''Best Fan Artist'' in 1977 and 1978. Kaja Foglio (born January 12, 1970) is a Seattle-based writer, artist, and publisher. Foglio co-won the first Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story in 2009 for ''Girl Genius, Volume 8: Agatha Heterodyne and the Chapel of Bones'', a series which went on to win two more Hugo Awards. The Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story is given each year for science fiction or fantasy stories told in graphic form and published or translated into English during the previous calendar year. The Joe Shuster Canadian Comic Book Creator Awards (or Joe Shuster Awards) are given out annually for outstanding achievements in the creation of comic books, graphic novels, webcomics, and comics retailers and publishers by Canadian comics, Canadians. The awards, first handed out in April 2005, are named in honour of Joe Shuster (1914–1992), the Canadian-born co-creator of Superman.
