Yellow Sea
The Yellow Sea is a marginal sea of the Western Pacific Ocean located between mainland China and the Korean Peninsula, and can be considered the northwestern part of the East China Sea. It is one of four seas named after common colour terms (the others being the Black Sea, the Red Sea and the White Sea), and its name is descriptive of the golden-yellow colour of the silt-laden water discharged from major rivers. The innermost bay of northwestern Yellow Sea is called the Bohai Sea (previously Pechihli Bay or Chihli Bay), into which flow some of the most important rivers of northern China, such as the Yellow River (through Shandong province and its capital Jinan), the Hai River (through Beijing and Tianjin) and the Liao River (through Liaoning province). The ROKS ''Cheonan'' sinking occurred on 26 March 2010, when , a of the Republic of Korea Navy, carrying 104 personnel, sank off the country's west coast near Baengnyeong Island in the Yellow Sea, killing 46 seamen. The cause of the sinking remains in dispute, although evidence points to North Korea. A South Korean-led official investigation carried out by a team of international experts from South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Sweden presented a summary of its investigation on 20 May 2010, concluding that the warship had been sunk by a North Korean torpedo fired by a midget submarine. The conclusions of the report resulted in significant controversy within South Korea. Following the sinking, South Korea imposed sanctions against North Korea, known as the May 24 measures. Dandong Shooting Incident
The Dandong shooting incident occurred when North Korean border guards shot dead three Chinese citizens and injured one at Dandong, Liaoning Province, People's Republic of China on 4 June 2010. Incident On 4 June 2010, four Chinese citizens were shot on suspicion of crossing the China–North Korea border for trade activities. Three died and one was injured. Qin Gang (), spokesman for Ministry of Foreign Affairs publicized the news on 8 June. According to South Korean media reports, the people shot were members of a Dandong smuggling group on a ship on Yalu River. Cross-border smuggling is a common occurrence since North Korea is short on commodities supplies. The 2010 Senkaku boat collision incident (or the ''Minjinyu 5179'' incident) occurred on the morning of September 7, 2010, when a Chinese trawler (''Minjinyu 5179'') operating in disputed waters collided with Japanese Coast Guard (JCG) patrol boats near the Senkaku Islands. There were several JCG boats involved, including ''Yonakuni'' and ''Mizuki'', which collided with ''Minjinyu 5179'', plus ''Hateruma'' and other JCG boats. The collision and Japan's subsequent detention of the skipper, Zhan Qixiong (), resulted in a major diplomatic dispute between China and Japan. The Daecheong incident, also known as the Battle of Daecheong, was a skirmish between the South Korean and North Korean navies near the Northern Limit Line (NLL) on 10 November 2009 off Daecheong Island. The incident began at 11:27 am when a North Korean navy patrol boat crossed the NLL, which is not recognized by North Korea (DPRK).
