2010 Waterford Senior Hurling Championship
The 2010 Waterford Senior Hurling Championship was the 110th staging of the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Waterford County Board in 1897. Ballygunner were the defending champions. On 24 October 2010, De La Salle won the championship after a 3-13 to 1-11 defeat of Ballygunner in the final. This was their second championship title overall and their first title since 2008. De La Salle GAA
De La Salle Gaelic football and hurling club is based in Waterford City, Ireland. The club competes in Gaelic games competitions organised by Waterford GAA board. The club has won the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship twice and the Waterford Senior Football Championship on 6 occasions. While having a notable record in gaelic football, today the club mainly focuses on hurling. History The club takes its name from St. Stephens De La Salle National School in Patrick Street and previous to the current club being established, fielded a hurling team under the name of St. Stephens. St. Stephens won 2 Senior County Hurling Championships, 1913 and 1914. In recent years the club has concentrated on developing juvenile players and now has one of the biggest under age setups in the South East of Ireland. Michael Ryan (hurler, Born 1955)
Michael Ryan (born 9 August 1955) is a retired Irish hurler and Gaelic footballer who played in various positions for The Nire–Fourmilewater club teams. In retirement from playing Ryan became involved in team management. As manager and selector of the Waterford, Laois and Dublin inter-county teams he has won seven All-Ireland. With the Ballymacarbry ladies' football team Ryan won multiple All-Ireland club titles while he also gained a wealth of experience training various club teams in hurling. Ryan was the manager of the Waterford senior hurling team for the 2012 and 2013 seasons and took over as Westmeath senior hurling team manager in October 2014. Playing career Club Ryan played hurling with the Fourmilewater club and Gaelic football with the sister club called The Nire. Ballygunner GAA
Ballygunner GAA (nicknamed "The Gunners") is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club located in the parish of St Mary's Ballygunner in Waterford City, Ireland. The are the current All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship title holders. The club, which is exclusively concerned with hurling, is one of the most successful in Waterford. It has won 20 county titles and produced many great players for Waterford such as Paul Flynn, Fergal Hartley, Billy O'Sullivan and Pauric Mahony. Ballygunner has an intense rivalry with fellow city club Mount Sion and for many years in the 1990s and 2000s the two dominated the club scene. Since 1992, Ballygunner have won 17 county titles. 2009 Waterford Senior Hurling Championship
The 2009 Waterford Senior Hurling Championship commenced on 25 April and concluded on 17 October 2009. De La Salle were the defending champions, having beaten Abbeyside in the 2008 final. Ballygunner defeated Lismore in the 2009 final following a replay. Due to complications with the former structure of the championship in 2008, it had been decided that the 12 teams would be structured into two groups of six. The top four teams from each group advanced to the quarter-final stage, from which the semi-finals and the final were played. The final and replay were played in Walsh Park in October 2009. The teams which finished last in each group played in a relegation playoff match. The losing team, Rinn Ó gCuanach, have been demoted to Intermediate for 2010. The 2008 Waterford Senior Hurling Championship is the current championship of the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship having commenced on 27 April 2008. There are 12 teams in the championship, structured into 3 groups of four teams. From these groups, quarter finals, and semi-finals will be played with a county final being played in either Walsh Park or Fraher Field. Walsh Park
Walsh Park ( ga, Páirc Breathnach) is a GAA stadium in Waterford, Ireland named after Willie Walsh, a well-known referee and long time campaigner for Gaelic games in Waterford. It is one of the two homes of the Waterford Gaelic football and hurling teams, the other being Fraher Field in Dungarvan. The two grounds are rivals for important games, former Waterford hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald saying "There's this endless battle between Walsh Park and Fraher Field, a political battle almost. If one field gets a game, the other has to get the next one. Dungarvan was a nice field, but my personal preference was always Walsh Park, because I felt it had more of the feel of a fortress."
