The men's 800 metre freestyle competition at the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships took place on August 21 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center. Peter William Vanderkaay (born February 12, 1984) is an American former competition swimmer who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events and is a four-time Olympic medalist. He was a member of the United States Olympic team in 2004, 2008, and 2012, and won bronze medals in the 200-meter freestyle at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 400-meter freestyle at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Personal life Vanderkaay was born in Royal Oak, Michigan. He grew up in Oakland Township, and attended Rochester Adams High School in Rochester Hills. Kier Maitland (born November 16, 1988, in Edmonton, Alberta) is a male swimming (sport), swimmer from Canada, who mostly competes in the distance freestyle events. Maitland is the son of Craig and Karen Maitland and has an older brother named Logan. Club swimming career Kier currently swims for the Edmonton Keyano Swim Club in Edmonton, Alberta during the summer under the coach Steve Price. Lucas da Cruz Kanieski (born 25 January 1990 in Dourados) is a Brazilian competitive swimmer. At the 2010 South American Games, Kanieski won the gold medal in the 800-metre freestyle, and two silver medals in the 400-metre and 1500-metre freestyle.
