Geoff Ogilvy
Geoff Charles Ogilvy (born 11 June 1977) is an Australian professional golfer. He won the 2006 U.S. Open and has also won three World Golf Championships. Professional career Ogilvy was born in Adelaide, South Australia to an English-born father Mike and Australian born mother Judy. He turned professional in May 1998 and he won a European Tour card at that year's Qualifying school. He played on the European Tour in 1999 and 2000, finishing 65th in his first season and improving to 48th in his second. He joined the U.S. based PGA Tour in 2001, and finished in the top 100 in each of his first five seasons. His first professional tournament win came in 2005 at the PGA Tour's Chrysler Classic of Tucson. In February 2006 he beat Davis Love III in the final of the 2006 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Jim Herman
James Robert Herman (born November 5, 1977) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. Early life Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Herman learned to play golf at the Shawnee Lookout course in Hamilton County. He graduated from Our Lady of Victory grade school, and played golf at St. Xavier High School and graduated in 1996. He played college golf at the University of Cincinnati, and turned professional in 2000. Professional career Herman played on the mini-tour, Golden Bear Tour from 2001 to 2004. He was then an assistant golf pro at several golf clubs before qualifying for the Nationwide Tour after finishing T74 at the 2007 PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament. The Australian Open, owned and run by Golf Australia, is the oldest and most prestigious golf tournament on the PGA Tour of Australasia. The Open was first played in 1904 and takes place toward the end of each year. The winner of the tournament receives the ''Stonehaven Cup'', presented by Lord Stonehaven, the Governor-General of Australia from 1925 to 1930. It was first presented in 1930. Status The Australian Open is the "flagship tournament" of the PGA Tour of Australasia, and until 2022 had a special status in the Official World Golf Ranking's points system. Peter O'Malley (golfer)
Peter O'Malley (born 23 June 1965) is an Australian professional golfer. Early life O'Malley was born in Bathurst, New South Wales. Amateur career O'Malley won the Australian Junior Championship and the New Zealand Amateur in 1986. Professional career O'Malley turned professional in 1987. He has won several times on the PGA Tour of Australasia, but spent most of the year playing on the European Tour. He was runner-up to Mark James in his first European Tour event, the 1989 Dubai Desert Classic, and has since won three titles on the European Tour. Perhaps the most famous of these three victories was his Scottish Open win which he played the last five holes in seven under par to snatch victory. The New South Wales Open is an annual golf tournament held in New South Wales, Australia. The event was founded in 1931 as the New South Wales Close Championship, being restricted to residents of New South Wales, becoming the New South Wales Open Championship in 1958 when it was opened up to players from outside New South Wales. Norman Von Nida won the event six times, while Jim Ferrier and Frank Phillips won it five times with Greg Norman winning it four times. History The event was founded in 1931 as the New South Wales Close Championship, being restricted to residents of New South Wales. The first event was held at Manly Golf Club and, after 72 holes played over two days, resulted in a tie between three professionals Charlie Gray, Tom Howard and Sam Richardson. Steven Bowditch
Steven Bowditch (born 8 June 1983) is an Australian professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour of Australasia. Bowditch was born in Newcastle, New South Wales. He had a distinguished amateur career, which includes medalist honours at the 2001 Australian Amateur. Bowditch plays on the PGA Tour of Australasia and previously played on its developmental Von Nida Tour. He also plays in the United States, where he has alternated between the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour for varied success. The New South Wales PGA Championship was a professional golf tournament played in New South Wales, Australia between 1923 and 2015. History The inaugural event was held in 1923 and was won by Fred Popplewell with a score of 311. Dan Soutar had led by two strokes after the first 36 holes at The Australian Golf Club but Popplewell took a three shot lead after a third round of 74 and held on in the final round to win by a stroke. The final 36 holes were played at Royal Sydney. It was a stroke-play event again in 1924 but thereafter it was generally match-play until World War II. After the war it was a match play event in 1946 and 1950 but otherwise it was a stroke-play tournament. Stuart Appleby (born 1 May 1971) is an Australian professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour Champions. He was a nine-time winner on the PGA Tour. History In 1989 the International Management Group took control of the management of the tournament. Though the Australian Masters usually was part of the PGA Tour of Australasia's calendar, the event was not on the Order of Merit in 1992. The PGA Tour of Australasia requested that the field expand from 100 players to a full-field of 120 players. International Management Group (IMG), which ran the event, rejected the request.
