2010 Giro D'Italia Femminile
The 2010 Giro d'Italia Femminile or 2010 Giro Donne was the 21st running of the Giro d'Italia Femminile, one of the premier events of the women's road cycling calendar. It was held over ten stages from 2–11 July 2010, starting in Muggia and finishing in Monza. It was won by Mara Abbott of USA National Team, the first American ever to win the Giro Donne. Teams Sixteen teams with 8 riders each were invited to the Giro d'Italia Femminile, for a total of 128 starting positions. However, several teams started short by a rider or two, so the start of the race only featured 120 riders. Mara Abbott
Mara Katherine Abbott (born November 14, 1985) is a US former professional women's bicycle racer. In 2010, Abbott became the first US cyclist ever to win the Giro Donne, one of the Grand Tours of women's bicycle racing. Abbott retired after the 2016 Olympic Games road race. Early life and amateur career Abbott was born in and, as of 2016, still lives in Boulder, Colorado. She was a competitive swimmer, primarily specializing in distance freestyle races, at Whitman College, which is where she took up road bicycle racing as a springtime activity. After competing for Whitman in two straight National College Cycling Association Division II championships, where the team won back-to-back championships in both the team time trial and the team omnium, and Abbott won back-to-back championships in the road race and also won the criterium and the individual omnium in 2006, Abbott placed fifth in the USA National Championship Women's Road Race. Evelyn Stevens (cyclist)
Evelyn Lee Stevens (born May 9, 1983) is an American retired professional road cyclist. Early life Stevens was born in Claremont, California but grew up in Acton, Massachusetts, where she attended Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. She studied government and women and gender studies at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and was a member of the college's tennis team. After graduating in 2005 she moved to New York City where she worked for Lehman Brothers for two years, then for mezzanine fund Gleacher Mezzanine before quitting in July 2009 to take up cycling full-time. Career She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the women's road race, finishing 24th. In July 2014, Stevens competed at the Giro d'Italia and Thüringen Rundfahrt over 17 consecutive days of racing, finishing 14th and 1st respectively. Lendinara is a ''comune'' in the province of Rovigo, Veneto, northern Italy. It is part of the historical and geographical region of Polesine.
