2010 Colorado Rapids Season
The 2010 Colorado Rapids season was the fifteenth year and season of the club's existence. It was Colorado's fifteenth year in Major League Soccer, and the sixth-consecutive year for the club in the top-flight of American soccer. Following a disappointing ninth-place finish in the regular season, head coach Gary Smith began to revamp and overhaul the roster, making numerous inexpensive moves to sign low-key MLS players to fit the salary cap demands at one of few franchises with no Designated Players. The Rapids were able to improve slightly in the MLS regular season, finishing in seventh place, scoring fifteen goals and conceding only four in their last six home games. The team finished their final ten league matches with a 4–3–3 record. In the MLS Cup Playoffs, Colorado were seeded in the Eastern Conference and defeated Columbus in a penalty shoot out. Colorado Rapids
The Colorado Rapids are an American professional soccer club based in the Denver metropolitan area. The Rapids compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Western Conference. Founded in 1995, as part of the Anschutz Corporation, later to be a founding sports franchise of the global sports & entertainment juggernaut AEG, the club is a founding member of MLS, playing their first season in 1996. The Rapids are owned by the Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, also owners of the Denver Nuggets of NBA, Colorado Avalanche of NHL, and other sports teams outside of the state of Colorado. Arsenal Training Centre
The Arsenal Training Centre, often referred to as its geographical location London Colney in Hertfordshire, is the training ground of Arsenal Football Club. It houses ten full-size pitches, an indoor facility and a medical and rehabilitation centre. Constructed after manager Arsène Wenger campaigned for Arsenal to replace its existing University College London groundshare site, it opened in October 1999 at a cost of £10 million. The training centre was financed by the transfer of Nicolas Anelka to Real Madrid. Conor Casey
Conor Patrick Casey (born July 25, 1981) is an American former soccer player. He played for 16 seasons, finishing his career with Columbus Crew SC, before turning to coaching with his former club Colorado Rapids. Playing career Youth and college Casey was born in New Hampshire, but moved to Colorado at age five, and considers Denver his hometown. He played soccer at Denver's South High School and went on to play two years of college soccer for the University of Portland from 1999 to 2000. In his first year at the University of Portland, Casey was named best player of the year. In 2000, he led the NCAA in scoring with twenty-three goals and seven assists. The MLS Cup is the annual championship game of Major League Soccer (MLS) and the culmination of the MLS Cup Playoffs. The game is held in November and pits the winner of the Eastern Conference Final against the winner of the Western Conference Final. The MLS Cup winner is awarded the title of league champion. MLS uses a playoff tournament following the regular season to determine its annual league champion, a method common to every other major North American sports league. George John (soccer)
George John (born March 20, 1987) is a former American soccer player. Youth and college soccer John was born and raised in Shoreline, Washington. George played youth soccer for Emerald City FC in Seattle. He was later the team captain of his youth club leading the Crossfire Premier to an U-18 Premier I Division Championship and a U-18 Washington State Championship. In 2011, John was inducted into the inaugural class of the Crossfire Premier Hall of Fame, along with fellow professional soccer players Ellis McLoughlin and Preston Zimmerman. John also played soccer for Shorewood High School where he was team captain and a 2004 NSCAA High School Adidas All-American honoree. John's jersey (#11) was retired by the school during a ceremony in 2011. An own goal, also called a self goal, is where a player performs actions that result in them or their team scoring a goal on themselves, often resulting in a point for the opposing team, such as when a football player kicks a ball into their own net or goal, awarding the other team a point.
