2010 African Championships In Athletics
The 2010 African Championships in Athletics was held in Nairobi, Kenya from 28 July to 1 August 2010. Background The African Championships in Athletics were held in Kenya for the first time. Previously two major athletics events have been held in Kenya, namely 1987 All-Africa Games and 2007 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Preparations The championships were awarded to Kenya at the April 2007 Confederation of African Athletics Congress in Dakar, Senegal. The event was originally scheduled to be held from April 28 to May 2, 2010, but due to delayed preparations the event was moved forward. Mohsen Mohamed Anani
Mohsen Mohamed Abdel-Mohsen Anani Yousef Mustafa ( ar, محسن محمد عبد المحسن عناني يوسف مصطفى; born 21 May 1985) is an Egyptian hammer thrower. He was born in Tunis, Tunisia. He transferred his eligibility to his native Tunisia in 2017. He started as a shot putter, following that El Anany was recruited by former African shot put champion Nagui Asaad, who was setting up a throwing school that also included discus thrower Omar Ahmed El Ghazaly and shot putter Yasser Ibrahim Farag, Yasser Fathy Ibrahim Farag. His personal best throw is 77.36 metres, achieved on March 29, 2010, in Al Qâhira. This is the current national record. Chris Harmse
Christiaan Harmse (born 31 May 1973) is a South African hammer thrower. He has broken the African record seven times, and holds the championship record for both the African Championships and All-Africa Games. He has been a dominant presence in African hammer throwing since his first African Championships in Athletics in 1998 where he took gold with a championship record throw. He then went on to claim four consecutive African titles between 2002 and 2008, improving his own record along the way. His performances at the All-Africa Games have been equally dominant – he won his first title at the 1999 Games with a Games record and won twice more consecutively in 2003 and 2007, improving his record both times. Although he won bronze medals at the 1998 and 2006 Commonwealth Games, he has had considerably less success on the world stage – despite four appearances at the World Championships in Athletics in his career, he has never qualified for the final of the event.
