The 2009–10 season is the Wellington Phoenix's third season of football in the Hyundai A-League, making it the longest running New Zealand team in the competition, surpassing the defunct New Zealand Knights. Wellington Phoenix Football Club is a professional association football club based in Wellington, New Zealand. It competes in the Australian A-League, under licence from Football Federation Australia. Phoenix entered the competition in the 2007–08 season after its formation in March 2007, by New Zealand Football to replace New Zealand Knights as a New Zealand-based club in the Australian A-League competition. The club is one of the few clubs in the world to compete in a league of a different confederation (AFC) from that of the country where it is based ( OFC). The club's highest achievement is reaching the A-League Preliminary Final in 2010. The club plays matches at Sky Stadium (formerly Westpac Stadium), a 34,500-seat multi-purpose venue in Wellington. Tony Lochhead
Tony James Lochhead (born 12 January 1982) is a New Zealand former professional footballer who appeared with the New Zealand national football team. Early life and education Lochhead was born on 12 January 1982 in Tauranga, New Zealand. He was a student at Otumoetai College in Tauranga, where he played football and volleyball. Lochhead went to the United States in 2001 to study at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He was a student-athlete and played college soccer for the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos men's soccer team. He was a member of the team from 2001 to 2004, starting all 83 games he played, and set a school record for total minutes. Vince Lia
Vince Lia (born 18 March 1985) is an Australian professional football (soccer) player who plays for Altona Magic in the National Premier Leagues Victoria. Born in Shepparton, Lia played youth football in Victoria before making his senior debut with South Melbourne in the National Soccer League. He spent one season with Fawkner-Whittlesea Blues in 2005 before joining Melbourne Victory in 2005 to play in the newly-formed A-League. Lia next spent a decade at Wellington Phoenix, making over 200 appearances for the club in all competitions. He returned to Australia in 2017, signing with Adelaide United. David Mulligan
David James Mulligan (born 24 March 1982) is a New Zealand former football player and head coach. Born in England, he began his career at Barnsley, making his first-team debut in October 2001. He became a first-team regular in the 2001–02 and 2002–03 seasons, before joining Doncaster Rovers in February 2004. He helped the club to the Third Division title in the 2003–04 campaign. He was signed to Scunthorpe United in June 2006 and won the League One title with the club in 2006–07. Claudio Adrián Cáceres (born 10 January 1982 in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine-born Australian former footballer who last played for Balcatta FC. Club career Caceres started his professional career with English team Southampton before spending a few years with lower Football League clubs including Yeovil Town, Hull City, Wycombe Wanderers, Brentford and Aldershot Town . Troy Hearfield
Troy Hearfield (born 31 October 1987 in Tamworth, NSW) is an Australian football (soccer) player who plays for Sawtell FC. Club career Hearfield signed for Newcastle Jets in 2006. On 2 February 2007, Hearfield made his professional debut in a game against Sydney FC. He made the transfer to Wellington Phoenix on 28 March 2008 after a rift between his former club Newcastle Jets about his release, and scored his first Phoenix goal against his former club on 23 November 2008. Michael Ferrante
Michael Ferrante (born 28 April 1981) is an Australian former footballer. He is currently the senior men's head coach of Essendon Royals SC. Biography He attended St. Joseph's College Melbourne from years 1992–1997 being a star week in week out for his school side. Chris Greenacre
Christopher Mark Greenacre (born 23 December 1977) is an English football manager and former footballer, he is the head coach of the Wellington Phoenix FC Reserves. Greenacre began his career with Manchester City in 1996. Whilst at Maine Road he was sent out on loan to Cardiff City, Blackpool, Scarborough, Northampton Town and Mansfield Town in order to gain first team experience. However, he failed to make the grade at Manchester City and so joined Mansfield Town on a permanent transfer. Leonida Christos Bertos (born 20 December 1981) is a New Zealand professional footballer who last played as a midfielder for Hamilton Olympic in the National Premier Leagues.
