North Dakota Fighting Sioux Women's Ice Hockey
The North Dakota Fighting Sioux women's ice hockey team was the college ice hockey team at the Grand Forks campus of the University of North Dakota. They were members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and competed in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I women ice hockey. The program was cut by the University of North Dakota on March 29, 2017. History On October 5, 2010, North Dakota was ranked 10th in the Uscho.com poll. It was only the second time in program history that the club was in the top 10 in either the USA Today or Uscho.com poll. The last time came during the 2008–09 season after a 7–2–1 start. Manitoba Maple Leafs
The Manitoba Maple Leafs were a professional women's ice hockey team in the Western Women's Hockey League (WWHL). The team played its home games at the MTS Iceplex in Winnipeg, Canada. History The team joined the WWHL on June 5, 2010. Its team president was Bryon Stephen. The franchise was in partnership with the Winnipeg Métis Federation to provide an opportunity to participate in ice hockey for players from all ethnic backgrounds. In preparation for its first season, a selection camp took place in September, 2010 for the beginning by the season on October 29 in front of Minnesota Whitecaps. The opening match at home was November 5 and the first victory of the history of Maple Leafs took place on Sunday, November 7 which ended with a 5-2 score over the Edmonton Chimos. Union Dutchwomen Ice Hockey
The Union Dutchwomen's ice hockey team represents Union College in Schenectady, New York, United States. History From 1999 to 2003, the Dutchwomen competed in Division III hockey. In 2003, the Dutchwomen joined the ECAC. On February 20, 2010, senior Jackie Koetteritz, had played in her 125th game for the Dutchwomen, setting a record for the most games in a Dutchwoman uniform. Minnesota Golden Gophers Women's Ice Hockey
The Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey team plays for the University of Minnesota at the Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis. The team is one of the members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in Division I. The Golden Gophers have won six NCAA Championships as well as the final American Women's College Hockey Alliance Championship. The Bemidji State Beavers are a women's college hockey team representing Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minnesota, United States. They play at the NCAA Division I level, and compete in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). History The Bemidji State University intercollegiate women's ice hockey program began competition in the 1998–1999 season. The first head coach was Ruthann Cantile. She was head coach from the program's founding to the start of WCHA play, and the beginning of national NCAA Championships in 2001. The Maine Black Bears women’s ice hockey team represents the University of Maine. The team plays their home games in Alfond Arena. The team's first year of play was in 1997–98. The Black Bears finished 6th in the 2019-2020 season, advancing to the semi-finals of the Hockey East tournament, before losing to the eventual champions Northeastern Huskies by a score of 1-3. The Minnesota State Mavericks women's hockey ice program represents Minnesota State University, Mankato, and participate in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. History In October 2010, Kathleen Rogan registered a hat trick as the Mavericks defeated No. 6-ranked North Dakota by a 4–2 margin. The Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey team is the hockey team that represents the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. History On October 8, 1999, the Bulldogs played the Wisconsin Badgers in the first ever Women's WCHA conference game at the Kohl Center in Madison, WI. It was the highest attended game of the season (3,892) and resulted in an 8–1 defeat of the Badgers. Western Collegiate Hockey Association
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) is a college athletic conference which operates in the Midwestern United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division I as a women's ice hockey-only conference. From 1951 to 1999, it operated as a men-only league, adding women's competition in the 1999–2000 season. It operated men's and women's leagues through the 2020–21 season; during this period, the men's WCHA expanded to include teams far removed from its traditional Midwestern base, with members in Alabama, Alaska, and Colorado at different times.
