John Lucas II
John Harding Lucas II (born October 31, 1953) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played basketball and tennis at the University of Maryland, College Park and was an All-American in both. Collegiate career Lucas attended the University of Maryland where he was an All-American in basketball. Lucas was a Second-team All-American for the Terrapins team in 1973–74, along with his teammates Len Elmore and Tom McMillen. The Terrapins had a record of 23–5 in the regular season, and 9–3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). However, they lost during the ACC Tournament, and they could not go to the NCAA Tournament. Elmore and McMillan graduated in 1974, but in the following 1974–75 season, Lucas was a First-team All-American. The news broke in the off-season when center Yao Ming would miss the upcoming season due to foot surgery. This injury would soon be considered career-threatening. The 2009–10 Detroit Pistons season was the 69th season of the franchise, the 62nd in the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the 53rd in the Detroit area. The Pistons missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2000–01 NBA season. The Pistons finished with their most disappointing record since 1994–95 when they finished 28–54. 2009–10 Denver Nuggets Season
The 2009–10 Denver Nuggets season was the 43rd season of the franchise, its 34th in the National Basketball Association (NBA). After their trip the Conference Finals last season, the Nuggets started the season 35-18 before the All-Star break. Coach George Karl and Carmelo Anthony were the only Nuggets to represent the Western Conference in the 2010 NBA All-Star Game. However, not long after the break, dark clouds gathered around the team as coach Karl was diagnosed with neck and throat cancer. Adrian Dantley took over and the team struggled in the second half of the season, finishing with a 53-29 record and earned the number 4 seed in the West. Denver's season ended in the first round with a defeat to the Utah Jazz in six games. The Nuggets had the third best team offensive rating in the NBA.
