The 2009–2010 Cyclo-cross Gazet van Antwerpen took place between 10 October 2009 and 21 February 2010. This season, all eight rounds took place in Belgium. Sven Nys won the overall trophy in the elite men category, followed by Zdeněk Štybar and Niels Albert. The Cyclo-cross Trophy (), also known as X²O Badkamers Trophy (), is a Belgium, Belgian cyclo-cross racing series currently sponsored by X²O Badkamers (X²O Bathrooms). It is one of the three major season-long competitions in Cyclo-cross, the other two being UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup and Cyclo-cross Superprestige. Many races are held in the Antwerp (province), province of Antwerp with others being held across Belgium. History and Name Changes The first ever event was held on 1 November 1987 in Putte, Putte-Peulis and it was sponsored by the Flemish newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen. Between 1987-2012 the event was known as ''Gazet van Antwerpen Trofee''. After that it changed the sponsor several times. Between 2012-2016 it was known as ''BPost Bank Trophy'' and between 2017-2019 it was known as the ''DVV Trophy''. Since 2020 the event is known as ''X²O Badkamers Trophy''. The Azencross is a cyclo-cross race held in Loenhout village, Wuustwezel, Belgium. The race has been organized since 1984 and is named after the cycling race Critérium des As in Paris. During 1987-1992 and 2001-2021 the race was part of the Cyclo-cross Trophy series, except for the 2020 edition which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During 1993-1995 the race was part of UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup. Cyclo-cross BPost Bank Trophy
Cyclo-cross (cyclocross, CX, cyclo-X or cross) is a form of bicycle racing. Races typically take place in the autumn and winter (the international or "World Cup" season is October–February), and consist of many laps of a short (2.5–3.5 km or 1.5–2 mile) course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles requiring the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike while navigating the obstruction and remount. Races for senior categories are generally between 40 minutes and an hour long, with the distance varying depending on the ground conditions. The sport is strongest in the traditional road cycling countries such as Belgium (Flanders in particular), France and the Netherlands. Bart Wellens
Bart Wellens (born 10 August 1978) is a Belgian former professional cyclo-cross and road cyclist. He now works as the team manager of UCI Cyclo-cross Team . Career Wellens was born in Vorselaar. In the Under 23 category, Wellens battled Sven Nys. Wellens won the Under 23 Belgian championships in 1997 beating Nys while Nys got revenge at the UCI Under 23 World Cyclo-Cross championships a month later. Wellens had to settle for second place. The following year Wellens again finished second to Nys at the World Championships. Nys then left the category and Wellens became the Under 23 World Champion for two years in a row. Wellens turned professional in 2000 with the Spaar Select team. In 2002/03 season, Wellens won the World Cup and then won the Elite World Championships. In the following season 2003/04 he dominated the sport and beat rival Sven Nys in both the Gazet van Antwerpen and the Superprestige series. Sluitingsprijs Oostmalle
The Internationale Sluitingsprijs Oostmalle is a cyclo-cross race held in Oostmalle, Belgium, which was part of the Cyclo-cross Trophy until 2014. Since the 2014-2015 season it became an independent race but still with the back-up from the UCI. It is traditionally the last important race of the cyclo-cross season. The race is held in the woods of Christophe Lenaerts and the Oostmalle Airfield, military airfield. The Grand Prix Sven Nys or GP Sven Nys is a cyclo-cross race held in Baal, Belgium. The race is named after cyclo-cross legend Sven Nys who is a citizen of Baal. Nys won his "own" race 12 out of 16 times he competed. He was sick at home for the 14th edition in 2013.
