2009–10 Cincinnati Bearcats Women's Basketball Team
The 2009–10 Cincinnati Bearcats women's basketball team will represent the University of Cincinnati in the 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Bearcats will be coached by Jamelle Elliott, and play their home games at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Bearcats are a member of the Big East conference and will attempt to win the NCAA championship. Offseason *May 5:Jamelle Elliott, a former student-athlete and assistant coach at the University of Connecticut, has been named the University of Cincinnati's eighth head basketball coach. Elliott has spent part of the last two decades with the Connecticut women's basketball program. She spent the last 12 years as an assistant coach. 2009–10 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Season
The 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's basketball season began in November 2009 and ended with the 2010 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament's championship game on April 6, 2010 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The tournament opened with the first and second rounds on Thursday through Sunday, March 18–21, 2010. Regional games were played on Thursday through Sunday, March 28–31, 2010, with the Final Four played on Sunday and Tuesday, April 4 and 6, 2010. The Connecticut Huskies successfully defended their national title from the previous season, defeating Stanford 53–47 in the final. This was the Huskies' second consecutive unbeaten championship season, unprecedented since the NCAA began to organize women's basketball in the 1981–82 season. Jamelle Elliott
Jamelle Renee Elliott (born May 18, 1974) is an American women's basketball coach, formerly at the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team. Early life and high school Elliott was introduced to basketball by her cousin Adrien Elliott, who Elliott looked up to as a youngster. Adrien went to H.D. Woodson Senior High School, H.D. Woodson High School in Washington DC. Elliott attended summer camp one year with Adrien, and became interested in the game. She joined her junior high school basketball team, and also joined an Amateur Athletic Union team. Jamelle wanted to follow her cousin to Woodson and get the best basketball experience so she enrolled at Woodson and traveled almost an hour-and-a-half drive each way to school "I used basketball as my way to hopefully go to college, and it worked out.” While at Woodson her basketball team won two consecutive state championships.
