2009 US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam (women)
The tenth annual 2009 US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam was a women's basketball tournament that took place November 26–28, 2009. Eight teams from the NCAA were invited to participate in the tournament. The teams were separated into two brackets, the Reef Division and the Island Division. The Reef Division consisted of Mississippi State, Rutgers, Southern California and Texas. The Island Division consisted of Notre Dame, Oklahoma, San Diego State and South Carolina Reef Division Schedule * Games were played at the U.V.I. Paradise Jam Tournament
The U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam is a NCAA college basketball tournament that takes place annually in late November. The men's tournament typically takes place the week before Thanksgiving (United States), Thanksgiving, with the women's tournament occurring during Thanksgiving week. It is held in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Thomas at the Sports and Fitness Center on the campus of the University of the Virgin Islands. Colorado State Rams men's basketball, Colorado State is the defending men's champion. Texas A&M Aggies women's basketball, Texas A&M and Arizona Wildcats women's basketball, Arizona are the defending women's champions in the Reef and Island divisions, respectively. 2009–10 South Carolina Gamecocks Women's Basketball Team
The 2009–10 South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team represented the University of South Carolina in the 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Gamecocks were coached by Dawn Staley, in her second year, and played their home games at Colonial Life Arena. They competed as members of the Southeastern Conference. Gamecock freshman and future WNBA player Kelsey Bone became the first South Carolina player to be named SEC Newcomer of the Year, before then transferring to Texas A&M. South Carolina finished the season with a final record of 14–15. They lost to Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament and were not invited to the NCAA Tournament. This remains South Carolina's last season with a losing record. Skylar Diggins-Smith
Skylar Kierra Diggins-Smith (born August 2, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Diggins was drafted third overall by the Tulsa Shock in the 2013 WNBA draft. In high school, she was the National Gatorade Player of the Year and the Gatorade Female Athlete of the Year. Diggins played point guard for Notre Dame, where she led Notre Dame to three consecutive Final Fours and two consecutive NCAA championship appearances. Valerie Nainima (born June 29, 1986) is a Fijian former basketball player and current assistant head coach for Providence. She is also a member of Fiji women's national basketball team. Playing career Nainima began her college basketball career at LIU. During her freshman season she averaged 17.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals game. Her 17.8 points per game was the highest scoring average of any freshman in the nation. She also ranked second in the conference in three-point percentage (.420) and third in both three-pointers made (2.07 per game) and free-throw percentage (.853). 2009–10 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Season
The 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's basketball season began in November 2009 and ended with the 2010 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament's championship game on April 6, 2010 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The tournament opened with the first and second rounds on Thursday through Sunday, March 18–21, 2010. Regional games were played on Thursday through Sunday, March 28–31, 2010, with the Final Four played on Sunday and Tuesday, April 4 and 6, 2010. The Connecticut Huskies successfully defended their national title from the previous season, defeating Stanford 53–47 in the final.
