2009 Pan American Women's Handball Championship
The 2009 Pan American Women's Handball Championship was the tenth edition of the Pan American Women's Handball Championship, which took place in Santiago from 23 to 27 June. It acted as the Pan American qualifying tournament for the 2009 World Women's Handball Championship. Evolution of the Arabic digit In the beginning, various Indians wrote a digit 9 similar in shape to the modern closing question mark without the bottom dot. The Kshatrapa, Andhra and Gupta started curving the bottom vertical line coming up with a -look-alike. The Nagari continued the bottom stroke to make a circle and enclose the 3-look-alike, in much the same way that the sign @ encircles a lowercase ''a''. As time went on, the enclosing circle became bigger and its line continued beyond the circle downwards, as the 3-look-alike became smaller. Soon, all that was left of the 3-look-alike was a squiggle. The Arabs simply connected that squiggle to the downward stroke at the middle and subsequent European change was purely cosmetic. Alexandra Priscila do Nascimento Martínez (born 16 September 1981) is a Brazilian former handball player. She played in the Brazil women's national handball team, Brazilian national team. Career She was born in 1981 in Limeira (São Paulo) but she soon moved to Espírito Santo where she grew up. She moved to Austria in 2004. In 2012, she was the first Brazilian handballer to be voted IHF World Player of the Year. In 2016, she was chosen for the third time to be in Brazil's Olympic handball team. Valentina Kogan
Valentina Kogan (born 19 March 1980) is an Argentine handball goalkeeper. She plays for Vilo and the Argentina national team and participated at the 2011 World Women's Handball Championship in Brazil. Biography Valentina Kogan is diabetic since the age of 10, and vegetarian since the age of 15. She started playing handball when she was in middle school at Colegio Tarbut, a Jewish private school with a trilingual education program. Kogan studied International Relations at the University of San Andrés, and is married since 2013 to Carolina Rieger. As of 2016, the couple is expecting twins, conceived by artificial insemination.
