2009 Oceanian Futsal Championship
The 2009 OFC Futsal Championship was the sixth edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region. It took place from 7 July to 11 July 2009, and was hosted by Fiji, which had also hosted the previous edition. The number of participating teams dropped from seven to just four, as French Polynesia, New Zealand and Tuvalu failed to return from the previous year's competition. Previously, the Championship had been held every four years; the 2009 edition marked the beginning of an annual tournament. 2008 Oceanian Futsal Championship
The 2008 OFC Futsal Championship was the fifth edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region. It took place in Suva, Fiji from 8 June to 14 June 2008. The tournament also acted as a qualifying tournament for the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Brazil. The Solomon Islands won the tournament, and qualified for the World Cup. This was the first OFC Futsal Championship tournament not to include Australia as they left the OFC to join the Asian Football Confederation in 2006. 2010 Oceanian Futsal Championship
The 2010 OFC Futsal Championship was the seventh edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region. It took place from 8 August to 14 August 2010, and was hosted by Fiji, which had also hosted the two previous editions. The number of participating nations rose to seven, up from four in 2009, as New Zealand, Tuvalu and French Polynesia (under the name "Tahiti") returned to the competition. Those three nations had previously participated in 2008. Vanuatu, New Caledonia, defending champion Solomon Islands, and hosts Fiji, all returned from 2009. The 2010 championship was played on a round robin league system. In 2009, the championship had been played with a knock out group stage followed by a final. Oceanian Futsal Championship
The OFC Futsal Championship is the main national futsal competition of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) nations. It was first held in 1992. The competition was initially held every four years. From 2008 onwards, however, it became an annual tournament. Australia won every edition of the competition until it left the Oceania Football Confederation in 2006. Solomon Islands have won the three editions of the tournament which have taken place since then - including a decisive 8-1 victory over Fiji in the final of the 2009 edition. The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) is one of the six continental confederations of international association football. The OFC has 13 members, 11 of which are full members and two which are associate members not affiliated with FIFA. It promotes the game in Oceania and allows the List of men's national association football teams#OFC (Oceania), member nations to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. OFC is predominantly made up of island nations where association football is not the most popular sport, with low GDP and low population meaning very little money is generated by the OFC nations. Solomon Islands National Futsal Team
The Solomon Islands national futsal team, nicknamed Kurukuru, represents the Solomon Islands in international futsal competitions and is controlled by the Solomon Islands Football Federation. It is one of the strongest teams in Oceania, but fares poorly in competitions outside the region. The team's coach in 2008 was Victor Wai’ia. By 2009, he had been succeeded by Dickson Kadau. The country has no futsal stadium, although in July 2009 Prime Minister Derek Sikua promised that the government would assist in building one. Fiji National Futsal Team
The Fiji national futsal team was formed by the Fiji Football Association, the governing body of futsal in Fiji and represents the country in international futsal competitions. The current coach is Jerry Sam, a former head coach of Solomon Islands Futsal team. He led them to their first world cup. Sam was announced as head coach in 2022. Elliot Ragomo (born 28 May 1990) is a futsal player from the Solomon Islands. He plays as a defender for Brazilian club Minas Tênis Clube in the Liga Nacional de Futsal and the Solomon Islands national futsal team.
