2009 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament
The 2009 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament was a tournament of 48 teams from NCAA Division I who played for the NCAA Championship in soccer . The semifinals and final were held at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. All the other games were played at the home field of the higher seeded team (indicated by * for non-seeded teams). The final was held on December 13, 2009 with Virginia defeating Akron, 3–2 in a penalty shoot-out, following a goalless regulation and two overtimes. The bracket was announced November 16, 2009. The tournament started on November 19. The second round was played on November 22. The third round was played on November 29. The Regional Finals were played on December 4 and 5. Maryland Terrapins Men's Soccer
The Maryland Terrapins men's soccer team represents the University of Maryland in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college soccer competition. The program has won four NCAA Division I College Cup national championships (1968, 2005, 2008, 2018). Maryland won nineteen Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) regular season championships (1953–68, 1971, 2012, 2013) and six ACC tournament championships (1996, 2002, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013) before joining the Big Ten Conference on July 1, 2014. The Terps won the 2014, 2016, and 2022 Big Ten Conference men's soccer championships and the 2014 and 2015 men's soccer tournament titles. Casey Townsend
Casey James Townsend (born July 7, 1989) is an American former professional soccer player. Career Prep career Townsend played for Traverse City West High School in Michigan from 2004 to 2007. During his time there he was named the state's Player of The Year (Mr. Soccer) in 2006 and 2007. He is the only player who has ever been given that award twice. He was also named a two-time NSCAA All-American (2006 & 2007), and three-time PARADE All-American (2005 to 2007), while scoring a school record 105 goals and adding 47 assists in his four years there. Andre Ubong Akpan (born December 9, 1987) is an American former soccer player who most recently played for New England Revolution in Major League Soccer. Career Youth and college Akpan was born in Grand Prairie, Texas, to a Nigerian father and an American mother. Tony Walls (born January 16, 1990) is an American soccer player currently playing for St. Louis Ambush in the Major Arena Soccer League. Career College and Amateur Walls played four years of college soccer at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay between 2008 and 2011. While at college, Walls also appeared for USL PDL club Michigan Bucks in 2011. James Andrew Wenger (born December 25, 1990) is an American former professional soccer player who played for eight seasons in Major League Soccer. College and amateur career Wenger made an immediate impact in his first year at Duke University. He started in all 21 matches, and finished with four goals and three assists in a team-leading 1,896 minutes of action. In 2010, Wenger started in all of Duke's matches at center back and was a semi-finalist for the Hermann Trophy. In 2011, Wenger moved from center back to forward. Christian Ogochukwu Ibeagha (born January 10, 1990) is a Nigerian-born American soccer player. Career Youth, College and Amateur Ibeagha attended Deer Creek High School in Edmond, Oklahoma and spent his entire college career at Duke University. Prior to Duke, he was a Two-time NSCAA Youth All-America selection and a member of the U.S. soccer residency program in 2006 and 2007. Daniel Phillip Keat (born 28 September 1987) is a former New Zealand footballer who played as a midfielder. Charles Nosike Rugg (born October 2, 1990) is an American soccer player. Career Professional Los Angeles Galaxy selected Rugg in the first round (No. 19 overall) of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. Rugg made his debut for Galaxy on April 27, 2013 against Real Salt Lake and also scored his first professional goal in the 13th minute.
